Rumored gf

It seemed that David in Taiwan recording his new album (still recording, exactly when next yr r u going to release yr album David?) & he was caught on camera wif rumored gf Joanna again. Well kinda she drove him to his recording studio or sumthing like dat. Must be a slow news day heheheheheheheheheheh. Anyway they make a vry nice couple I think. Oso dun think his fans r going to flee just cos he may be getting hitched.
Apparently he turned down another endorsement as he wanna concentrate on recording. Must be hard to be his manager, oops another few thousand dollars outta window. Maybe he dun haf manager, just manages himself, hope so cos dun wanna anyone hating on him cos of lost profits haha. Just think if he accepted all the endorsements offered to him, he could haf bought Ferrari by now. Anyway David, we r grateful u dun think only of cash but yr music always come first. Its great u can sacrifice yr dream car to make better music 4 us fans, but could u just be a little bit faster?
David oso been vry busy helping his dad wif anime series 'Yappy Dog'. David snr is planning on releasing an english version in Taiwan to help kids wif learning english. Wonder if Studio Classroom is involved? Actually Tao Dawei haf long been involved with kids programs & education in Taiwan. Its good to know both the Davids r doing sumthing to improve education in Taiwan.
A more sober note is that my fav animal, the tiger, may be extinct soon. Wonder if we humans can get anything right in the animal world?

AMENDED POST

Haf amended this post to unity amongst Chinese and Asians. Sry dun mean to be exclusive as there r David fans who r asians not chinese. But I was upset abt the Hmong fan as he was so enthusiatic abt David's music, hope he is alrite. FYI Hmong is from Laos.

MORE DT TO ENJOY

Clip of David @ 11/20 Changsha Sprite concert alredi posted @ davidcn. He looked really great like the above pix, hairstyle almost the same but longer in front & without the streaks. Oso he was wearing the same jacket lol, but wif a diff tee. This was press conf in Beijing last yr & he was sick too, maybe this jacket is reserved when he is sick haha. Anyway I haf clip of this conf so upload into briefcase (as well Bastard remix) if u wanna watch it. Quite nice, oso autograph session where davidcn members were on hand to greet & give him medicine & lip balm. Honestly they r the most hardworking David fans ever. David in the Changsha concert actually change one line in Shanghaied to say sumthing like 'returning to Zhe Fu home' or sumthing like that, so sweet.

Oso upload another clip where he sang Spring Wind in sum event in Beijing this yr Jan.

Guess what, he wearing the same jacket kekekekekekekekke but dun think he was sick. He was cute when singing cos they kept giving him flowers & he ended up carrying so many. Really like this performance of Spring wind. Btw credit to tao-zhe.com for both clip & pix.
During the Changsha concert, a fan rushed up on stage to hug him hehehehehheheheh but I can understand why cos David really, really shuai when he was singing, & he smiled ever so sweetly when they yelled out, "Tao Zhe wo ai ne!"

THE ALBUM I WANT DAVID TO DO

A heavy summmons lies like lead upon me,
And yet I would not sleep ------- Shakespeare

So here's another post *sigh* a pix & a hug

I got to thinking abt the album I want David to do. At first I wanted an english album but dun think its sumthing he would feel comfortable in doing right now. So the next best thing is an album of the songs he wrote for others. I was gonna do poll @ the forum but dun noe how to do mutiple vote & too lazy to learn how, oso nobody seems to be voting, posting or anything so why bother. So here's the list:

1. Ronald Cheng's Thinking of your love
2. LA Boyz's Kingston Man's Dream
3. A-Mei's Wonder Why
4. Leo Ku's Don't say you don't know
5. Karen Mok's I understand
6. Eric Suen's Midnight Blue
7. Tony Leung's Wind and Sand
8. Jasmine Leong's I already know
9. Tension's Our Story
10. Jordan Chan's 0932
11. Alex To's Love Love Love
12. Sarah Chen's Not Lover not friend
13. Eason Chan's Live for today

I choose only 1 from each singer, but oso wanna hear him to do Tony Leung's Last Dance cos such a great song but Tony is not the best singer. Then Eric Suen's Definite, Karen Mok's Beautiful, lots more from A-Mei, Tension & LA Boyz. So I suppose haf to be a 2 disc album hehehehehehehehehehe.

SERIOUS ABOUT MUSIC

David won CASH award for Best Male Performer (Season of Loneliness). CASH is Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong & supposedly they r serious abt music. Hmmmm why do I think they gave it to him cos they r afraid to give to HK singers like Leo Ku, Andy Hui, Haken Lee cos of the intense competition hehehehehehehehe, anyway happy he got another award & for Season of Loneliness, a song he was accused unfairly of copying from sum Japanese anime. I wanna repeat here cos its the 3rd most ridiculous rumor abt David. The 1st was he haf plastic surgery & 2nd he was Anita Mui's last bf.

Sum horrid news regarding Hmong immigrant, Chai Soua Vang, killing 6 ppl in Wisconsin with a gun. I remembered a Hmong guy who always posting on davidorg abt how he loved singing David's songs. I am not too sure where he is now but condolences & strength to the Hmong community in US. While I will never condone killing ppl for any reason, I can fully understand if one is under intense prejudice. I remembered very vividly travelling across Australia & venturing into sum remote area where they hardly ever see Asian. The unprovoked loathing I encountered was really unpleasant esp in the year 2002 & I nvr felt safe the few hrs I was there. Its terrible to say but I knew dat if they could justify it, they would haf try to hurt me in sum way.

Dat is oso why I always feel so proud when David talk abt unity amongst Chinese & Asian cos I feel dat living in US he is aware of such prejudice. He is one musician who is really, really sincere abt Chinese music & making it better. He nvr talks abt showing the world how wonderful chinese music is cos he knows its not at the moment, or bringing his music to the US. All he wants to do is educate asians to be aware of good music & to appreciate it, to raise social consciousness & spread the msg of humanity & love in China & Asia. Because b4 we can show the world how good our music is, we first must be able to appreciate what is good music & how music can unite & change us for the better. I really hope he will succeed & dat the ppl who r always insulting & criticising him take a good look at the world & see what is happening.

DAVID & DAVIDCN

David's group pix wif davidcn members who all looked lovely courtesy rednet.com. Btw what does 'zhe fu' mean? Anyway recording of 11/20 Changsha press conf posted @davidcn alredi. That's when above pix was taken. David vry casual & looked a bit run down but still vry man. He haf been moving away from pop idol image & now the transformation seemed complete. He looked totally the talented musician who care less abt image & packaging. But it haf been said that ppl look most attractive when they r comfortable wif themselves & David oso looked his most alluring. He made a great speech regarding davidcn which u can dl @ DTFC english forum saying how wonderful it was that a fanclub can unite ppl all over China & even from HK. My respect for this guy just keep growing. I wonder if he will ever disappoint me, I am sure he will as he is human after all but it will be unintentional imma sure.
Saw this & my eyes pop @ the club remix of Angeline!!!!!! so wonderful, well Christmas just round the corner & there's oso club remix of Tension's One life one love. Just the cd to tide me over till David's new album release next yr.
Remind me of his Bastard remix, just the right song to play right now hehehehehehehhehe. If u haf not heard it email me ultra_snd@yahoo.com & I will put into briefcase 4 u okie. Its a song all David fans must haf.

HERE COMES THE BAND

B4 davidorg went down, there was a lovely thread talking abt the band behind David & Soul Power. Here can see all of them including the five backup singers. One of the things I like abt Soul Power concert was David's interaction wif the band & they were vry much part of the concert not just there to support him. I like the end of Runaway where he yelled out, "Take it away" then left the stage leaving the band to show off their immense music skills. It was like an impromptu jamming session so high & heralded the arrival of Tension. Then of course wif Kung Pao Chicken & My Anata, the 5 backup singers came upfront to sing & play along wif David. U need vry talented musicians to be so visible on stage & David certainly knew how to chose them. Here a brief rundown on the members of Soul Power Concert band:

Musical director/keyboardist - Goh Kheng Long
Altho can't find heaps on him, Kheng Long is well known in Singapore as the award winning musician who arranged Rainy Day for Stefanie Sun. Kheng Long is behind a lot of successful singers from A-Mei to Jasmine Leong. He is extremely well respected musician in Asia & his keyboard skills haf left many ladies enchanted but sry girls he is taken heehee.

Violinist - Joanna Yeoh

Vry talented, vry beautiful, visit her website & find out more abt this gorgeous violinist.

Keyboardist - Mei Sheum

Well known jazz pianist in Singapore. Read more abt her, more abt her work wif others, her cd entitled Mei Sheum & Friends - I Remember You.

Percussionist - Mohamed Noor

The most sought after percussionist in Asia, read more abt him here

Drummer - Lewis Pragasam

Lewis is vry much into fusion music & oso vry sought after in Asia. Review & River Rhythm where Lewis was involved.

Bassist - Andy Peterson aka "the green man"

Known as the top bassist in Asia.

Guitarists - James Wilson & Fauzi Samin
Not much on them but they r well known musicians in Asia & haf worked wif the others as well as many singers such as A-Mei, Jacky Cheung & Wang Lee Hom.

Backup singers - Andrew Chu, Josh Chen, Goh Kah Beng, David Tan Tat Wei & Rick Low Swee Cheong
Andrew Chu is well known in HK & Josh haf wrote & produced 4 Tension.

2 ONLINE FEATURES

The french version of China Radio International featured David below rough tran:
After its fourth album, HeiSeLiuDing , which means in French "black Clementine", the king of the R&B Taiwanais David CAT is back finally with the exit of its album very awaited " the musical way "!

David CAT is one of the largest singers of R& B taiwanaise since the appearance of its first album entitled DAVID CAT , published in 1997. This destiny almost seems to run of source for this young man born in Hong Kong of a famous father and a mother singer of Pekinese opera.

After honourable secondary studies in Taiwan, it leaves to study in California in Los Angeles. It chooses to learn psychology and the cinema there. A 23 years, in the store of disc where it works, it meets a famous artist taiwanais, Wang Yi Ping. This meeting will mark the beginning of the career of David who then decides to make music his trade.

After does its return to Taiwan, it take part in the realization of various albums like that of L.A BOYZ in 1995, and lends its voice for certain songs of Ronald Cheng, Alex To, or of Ah Mei? A list which could not be exhaustive. In 1997, it leaves its own album: DAVID CAT . On blue bottom, the cover of the small pocket is very discrete.

The majority of the written and composed songs being written by David CAT, the album assert resolutely a style R&B. Associées with very beautiful melodies, the words are also very touching. The ballades as I COILS YOU or BLUE MOON give you shivers so much the melodies are beautiful. The songs as OUR COILS and YES NO SONG are rather merry.

This same year 1997 was profitable for the singer who received various prices of which that of the young talent of the year. Moreover, it entered the American charts like the best Asian singer. Lastly, to crown the whole, at the time of a concert given in 1999, the great sizes of the pop canto, such as Anita Mui and others..., rose to acclaim it at the end in the concert.

The second album, left in 1999, proposed quelquechose of a little different since that with the usual R&B also a little rock'n'roll cohabits. And, it comprises an electronic modification of the voice. Always also sympathetic but can be too original for the Asian public. Lastly, it quietly prepares its third album in Los Angeles. David is really a musician of talent which I hope for it will leave his next album very soon.

Now the Italian version oso haf feature on him. Again rough tran:

In last the two years a R&B big wave has upset all the world of the Chinese POP. Currently many Chinese young singers embrace this interesting musical kind and to the contempo rilassato in order to interpret their songs: and Tao Zhe neither is sure one of the first and most professional ones.

Tao Zhe is been born in 1969, from parents of Shanghai. E' grown to Taiwan, hour lives in the USA has begun to reveal its ability to composer to the beginning of years ' 90, spreading various witnesses and songs for many singers POP. From the composition of the witnesses and the melodie to the finished product it has made road gradually and has become a true professional of music. In 1997 he has published its first disc omonimo "Tao Zhe" that has collected immediately a large one happening. The reasons of its popolarità are its enthusiasm for music, its diligenza, its peculiar and personal musical style the much and its western musical base.

It has integrated the R&B of the artists of color to the folkloristic songs of Taiwan, turning upside down with succeeding new the traditional style and adding linfa to music POP of Taiwan. Its R&B has been considered the beautifulr and characteristic R&B than unwrapped, natural, luminous and animated Taiwan, loved from nearly all the Chinese young people. It has obtained also many musical acknowledgments in the several premiazioni.

Tao Zhe is not a singer-idolo, does not take part to the publicity, to films or television film, dedication only to music, giving itself the best of if same in the creation of beautifulst and more also musics.

"I try same me" is one of the known reasons more than Tao Zhe, the text is fantasioso and interesting and tells of a young person to the search of if same in the past.

Here an other lyric reason of Tao entitled Zhe "the Moon represents the heart of who", that it has been rielaborato from a Chinese traditional reason "the Moon represents my heart". The text says: "E' guilt of the moon of this romantica evening therefore that me renders nervous, in fact has not happened null, that the evening only made a po' cold and to the unexpected one it is difficult to abandon the love; the Moon curve was in the sky, and saw that we were been involved from a irrazionale and blind love, does not have null juror, my kiss was in your shoulders and sang to low voice in yours orecchia: I wonder how much was deep my love for you, how much was deep my love for you, my love is much sincere one and the moon represents my heart... "

I think "I try same me" is Find myself? Its nice that David has online articles in diff langs.

Here's a review of Wounds of Passion where one of the roles is played by Tao Dawei, David's dad.

DAVID & LOU DAYOU

David flew from Changsha to Beijing on 11/21, not sure 4 what but davidcn members greeted him @ the airport & took pixs wif him. He oso took group pix @ changsha. He looked really happy & relaxed. He did say his new album will be out early next yr & he will oso be preparing his china concerts. He oso said he will be having more events in Beijing altho David's idea of more usually less than what his fans hope. As nlayhua haf posted on shoutbox, David arranged a song 4 Lou Dayou on his new album BeautIsland.
I like it a lot not just cos its David's arrangement but it haf that big romantic sound u seldom get in chinese pop & yet it oso sound taiwanese like Wu Bai. In other news, 12 Girl Band was said to recording wif David, but not sure whose album - theirs or David. Not sure how true but it all sound good. I am content dat David is staying true to his own sincerity & marching to his own tune. I rather he cooperate with Lou Dayou & 12 girl band than SHE or Jasmine Leong. Oso I like there's no media circus abt the cooperation, all vry low key, let the music speak for itself. I like this David vry much, like he has at last found himself.

DAVID @ CHANGSHA 11/20

The latest, most recent 'heartstopping' pix of David courtesy <3<3<3 davidcn!!!!!! His hair really long now heehee but totally adorable. Here sum news reports links if u noe chinese
NetEase
Xinhua

The first talked abt the atmosphere vry high when David, 'R&B godfather' heehee, appeared lotsa fans rushed from their seats to the front of the stage. If not for security, David would haf been pulled off stage. David sang 3 songs & still recovering from cold, his voice a bit hoarse (poor David) but his fans still vry high & kept calling his name, holding up his posters & banners. Some local fans even called their friends on their cellphones so can listen to him sing live.

The second talked about the 30 davidcn fans coming from Changsha, Shanghai & HK to support David. David was vry moved & said that he used to envy Wang Lee Hom for having such a strong fanbase, now his own fanbase Davidcn oso not bad giving him so much support (see I was right abt him wanting lotsa support). David rewarded his fans by getting tables removed immediately so can haf group pix (how sweet, hope can see soon). When asked abt his Ultrasound plans to married by 2005, starting filming by 2007 and be director by 2010, David laughed & said he already forgotten all these plans as he is now totally immersed in his new album. David oso said that even tho he haf cms & promos, the most important is still his music cos if he spend too much time on commercial activities, then his music making will be affected (meaning we dun see so much of him but its ok, his music more important).

Okie as promised bringing latest updates to u guys 4 all yr encouragement & support. Oso plse stayed tuned as this blog will be updated soon & be much better thanx to u guys, I determined to support David for as long as I can.

DAVID KEPT HIS PROMISE

Isn't this the most gorgeous pix ever? Eason guesting @ HK Soul Power concert. Credit as ever to davidcn, haf to post it for skybelle hehehehehehehehe. Well 11/20 here & gone, happy dat David kept his promise & showed up @ Changsha. Oso it seems his new album release will now be Jan 2005 latest & China concerts around April/May 2005. Hope he will stay around a bit longer dis time, maybe do a media interview or appear as guest on sum entertainment show. Its been 2 long dat I haf to keep posting pixs to remind what he look like!

Okie Lynn, plse email me if u still wanna My Anata mv, haf compressed it & save into Yahoo briefcase. The quality real bad unfortunately but still watchable. So email me 4 username & password alrite. I dun know why my files r disappearing but not much I can do abt it. But be patient & soon haf sum webspace to upload files. U find that the more difficulties I encountered the more try to overcome. So if sumone is trying to be funny on this blog, dun waste yr time.

Btw Zoe, Jordan Chan did release his Nightlife concert vcd wif My Anata in it, & on the live concert dvd wif Ekin Cheng, noticed they did Blue Moon.

Oso on a sidenote found this anti music industry site, altho a bit extreme, agreed wif sum of their views. When u hear & see so much of an artist, u r brainwash to believe the hype. When a song is played so many times on radio, tv, music store & shopping centres, u think it must be good even tho its just user friendly cos yr brain accept it without having to think much abt it. So yr musical expectations r lower & u continue to accept music manufactured 4 mass appeal. So when u hear music a bit more complex & less user friendly, it become harder to accept. Its like what Jim Lee, respected Taiwanese producer & David's friend, said on Ultrasound docu that not all mass appeal pop music are bad but its like if u keep teaching kindergarten stuff to older kids, u can't expect them to understand stuff that r a few levels up. So how can music progress if it stuck on the same level all the time? Anyway all dis just to console myself to wait patiently 4 David's new album. I sincerely hope like his previous albums, he is able to take Chinese music up another level.
photo hosting and image hosting by ImageVenue.com
This is cute heehee, haf to post & another credit to davidcn. Sry to post so much from you guys but we chinese challenged fans r desperate 4 another David fix.

FILES SHARING

Okie Lynn I haf upload My Anata again, both file I upload seemed to haf been removed. I hope nobody is trying to sabotage this blog cos its very tiring otherwise. Basically if u dislike David, plse just refrain from visiting. Or maybe sumone is trying to prevent file sharing. Plse note I only share those files that r hard to get or those dat David fans will not normally buy anyway. Oso most r his old songs & mvs which he would already haf received royalties. I share my files responsibly without trying to deprive David. Oso dun wanna put any restrictions & haf ppl registering @ the forum just to dl files. I feel as a community of David fans we should be open & welcoming to anyone wanting to know more abt David. If ppl chose to remain anonymous, dat their perogative but plse refrain from sabotaging my blog. Its a waste of yr & my time, not to mention fans who geninuely want to know more abt David.

MY ANATA

If u haf watched David's Ultrasound docu, can see David arguing wif Andrew abt My Anata. He wanted to make My Anata the intro song 4 his third album but Andrew strongly disagreed. Andrew felt dat My Anata might give ppl the wrong impression dat the whole album filled wif such weird songs. I luv My Anata cos it is a bit weird. It haf sum kinda Japanese folk melody mixed wif Beatlesque sound. David wrote it cos of Asia's obsession wif all things Japanese & cute. Oso like the way the Japanese phrases r part of the melody of the song. David did a really nice live rendition in his concert wif his backup singers & Mei on keyboard. Jordan Chan oso covered it in his recent concert. Here upload the mv on request by Lynn for 7 days.
The mv really goes wif the song wif David dressed as samurai as well in a band imitating the Beatles. The other samurai apparently his hairdresser, Dick, who recently opened a salon & David went to the opening along wif Jay & Jolin.

SPECIAL THANKS...

...to u guys for still believing in David, his inspiration & creativity in music. Always remember his 3rd msg where he said, "Encouragement, friendship and love during this time are very crucial and, again, I thank you all for your constant outpour of love and support." I hope all our constant msgs & thoughts can bring the necessary strength, support & love to David when he needs them most. I dun know, maybe cos I am still a bit down & weak, haf the feeling David is wanting our support the most at this crucial time. Above pix (credit davidcn.com) when he was producing the duet called Special thanks for Edwin Sui & Jade Kwan.
Dl & listen
Its a bit bland like most HK songs & David did his best to liven it up with r&b. Both Edwin & Jade r upcoming new HK singers & they did quite well in the song which won an award for best duet last yr. Oso this song is rather special as its the only one I know not composed but produced by David.

Actually David was labelled 'Babyface of Asia' a few times cos like Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, David is a respected producer as well as singer/songwriter. His successful collaboration included Sarah Chen, LA Boyz, A-mei, Jordan Chan & of cos Tension. He haf worked with both Taiwan & HK stars such as Eason Chan, Karen Mok, Tony Leung, Alex To & Leo Ku. He wrote & produced the Solar 2000 song working wif 4 of the biggest names in chinese entertainment - Nic Tse, Eason Chan, Lee Hom & Daniel Wu. Last yr he & Lee Hom wrote & produced song for SARS, Hand in Hand, working wif who's who list of Taiwanese stars.

Everybody who worked wif him praised his professionalism & expertise. But working with David do not guarantee hits just well written, well arranged, well produced songs. Cos unlike Babyface, David do not just produce radio friendly r&b songs to climb up the charts. As always, David strives for excellence & quality when working wif others. Really like the way he kinda tailored each song for each singer to suit their voice & personality.

Sum of my favs r Wind & Sand for Tony Leung, Katrina for Eason Chan, Kingston Man for LA Boyz, Wonder Why for A-Mei, I understand him for Karen Mok, Smart & My Story for Tension, Midnight Blue for Eric Suen, Thinking of your love for Ronald Cheng & I already know for Jasmine Leong. He has been asked a few times to do an album of songs he wrote 4 others & hopefully he will get to do it cos I really like to hear him sing them.

20041115

CRITICISMS & ACCUSATIONS

Sum criticisms of David included dat all he does r remakes of old songs. OK, he did 3 remakes in 3 albums out of 34 songs (not including singles & songs he wrote 4 others) which is roughly 9% of his works. 9%? & yet ppl accused him of remaking old songs all the time, so you see ppl liked to criticise without any kinda research. Oso the 3 covers he did r excellent egs of how to remake songs. The first Spring Wind just blew ppl away when his self titled album came out. The second Tuberose which I felt is even better than Spring Wind. The song is truly acappella without any instruments & David did all the vocals. Truly a masterpiece which not many ppl realised. His most popular remake is prolly Moon over my heart, a pop ditty done to death by lotsa singers in concerts. Easy to sing the original song but try to sing his version, a lot harder than u think but it sounds sweet & soothing to the ears.

The sign of an artist is when he take inspiration from someone's work & does his own interpretation like a great actor doing Hamlet or King Lear. This is what David does when he cover Spring Wind, Tuberose & Moon over my heart. Can't think of another chinese musician doing this as successfully as David, & for his success he is criticised as 'always redoing old songs' *sigh*

This post inspired by another post I read on davidcn where the poster said that enjoyment of Season of Loneliness spoiled by accusations of David 'copying' the melody from a Japanese anime called 12 Kingdom. My dear, do you think David haf all the time in the world to watch Japanese anime? Okie, let me tell u abt John Lennon & his inspirations. It was when he listened to Yoko, his wife, playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, he told Yoko to play the chords in reverse order & so inspired he wrote one of his most lovely songs, Because.

This is what artist do, they get inspired by all sorta things. OK maybe David heard the 12 Kingdom theme & saddened by his loneliness, he wrote Season of Loneliness, a hauntingly beautiful song. He may oso haf heard the original tune which inspired the 12 Kingdom theme. All it matters is that lotsa ppl r touched by Season of Loneliness & many cried when they heard it. Basically u just haf to believe in David & his inspirations. If u feel u cannot enjoy his songs cos u think he 'copied' it, well I feel sorry for u.

Again I read accusations dat he 'copied' I love you from Aaron Hall's I miss you. David wrote I love you in 1993 & his original english version was more Beatlesque than r&b. Aaron Hall's album, The Truth, which contained I miss you, came out towards the end of 1993. Not only dat, the two songs sound completely different except maybe the refrain.

Anyway now dat David will be releasing his new album soon, sure there will be more accusations & criticisms. I wanna say dun let it affect yr enjoyment of his music, but I guess u haf to make up yr own mind whether or not you are a true David Tao believer.

Finally found the orange shirt dvd thx to mercuria. Erm not sure if its legit but its really, really, really wonderful as it contained china live performances during release of Black Tangerine & I'm OK. But instead of his original live recording they used his album recording & included sum really tacky love scenes. Only 3 songs haf live recording & they r all great. First I love you & he sounds really fresh, then Airport in 10.30 & I really like this live version cos he did more falsetto & vry spontaneous. The last is my fav, Highx3 performed live by David on guitar! It was so good but way too short unfortunately. Oso the packaging vry nice & I would recommend get it if u ever see it cos even tho they spoiled it by not using the live version, u still get 3 excellent live performance & footage of David performing live in China. Oso even if not legit, they r all old songs not his new ones & if u r his fan, u would haf all his original albums rite?

SO PROUD OF DAVID

Okie watch the Studio Classroom program & its kinda erm educational & only a short clip of David singing Rain, so watch only if yr a big fan or wanna free lesson on english kekekekekekekekeke. Anyway feel so proud of David that westerners teaching english to chinese should use him as subject. One of the things they said was he makes music that matters. So true, his music not just entertainment but so satisfying 4 the soul. Oso he successfully blends the best of east & west in his songs so guess its appropriate they used him to teach english. Well hope David knows abt this & maybe help him to recover & take better care of himself cos DAVID, WE NEED YOU BACK IN ASIA! Its a sad, sad, sad place without yr music to bring hope & cheer. Waiting anxiously 4 yr brand new album which u promised to be different wif new musical direction & u want us to listen carefully. But then we always listen carefully to all your albums.

RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM

Sum confirmation at last on David's new album @ Yesasia, expected release date: December 30, 2004 altho only 'expected' so hopefully on schedule. Oso remember to watch Studio Classroom online profile on David, first link active from 11/11 to 11/13. So yeah can get a big dose of David soon with 3 online programs & his upcoming Mandarin album to be released soon.
Came across this page for Top 100 Smooth Jazz of 2003 & David Tao is No 2 with Spring Breeze!!!!!! Is this our David or some other David Tao with a song called Spring Breeze hum? Got to be him rite, cos David is just so amazing. Imma so happy & high now heehee. Then looking 4 blogskins, saw one 4 David in the categories celebrity, dark, masculine, music & simple >>>>>>>> so nice. Anyway really like my new skin & tagline, feel so relaxed & at home here.

David's music sheet for I Love You, click to see more, not sure where I got it from so credit 2 the person who posted it first.

BLACK TANGERINE

Today my feelings are a bit strange
But I cannot tell the reason why
Like there is some suffering on the way
But not knowing what kind of disease
Above my head the orange light of the California sun
But in my pocket there are only black tangerines
I still have a blue kind of feeling
Please don't ask me why
I really want to speak up
But there is nothing left to say
I only hate myself
For not escaping the blues
Maybe I am just a worthless little worm
Condemned for dreaming too much

You are not a hero
The leaves used falling to verify autumn
But I am still in a slumber, unable to wake
Are you willing to be a hero
Or do you want to let go?
The day is bright
Overcast by darkening clouds
All the ways led by the rays became dead ends
What kind of hero do you want to be?
I can see you are only a pawn
I want to cry, want to cry, want to cry
I want to cry, want to cry, want to cry

Today when I wake up, my head hurts
No matter how many phials of medicine I took
It's no use
My feelings are strangely subdued
It's best to stay as far away from me as you can
Outside the orange light of the California sun
But I stay in my own lonely black hole
I only have a very small request
And that's to ask you to leave me alone
I really want to speak up
But there is nothing left to say
I only hate myself
For not escaping the blues
Maybe I am just a worthless little worm
Condemned for dreaming too much

You are not a hero
The leaves used falling to verify autumn
But I am still in a slumber, unable to wake
Are you willing to be a hero
Or do you want to let go?
The day is bright
Overcast by darkening clouds
All the ways led by the rays became dead ends
What kind of hero do you want to be?
I can see you are only a pawn
I want to cry, want to cry, want to cry
I want to cry, want to cry, want to cry

Today my feelings are a little hazy
But I cannot tell the reason why
Like there is some suffering on the way
But not knowing what kind of disease
I want to cry, want to cry, want to cry
I want to cry, want to cry, want to cry

A PRAYER FOR DAVID

John Lennon died 1980 and this is what he said, "We're all Christ and we're all Hitler. We are trying to make Christ's message contemporary. We want Christ to win. What would he have done if he had advertisements, T.V., records, films and newspapers? The miracle today is communication. So let's use it." David has been diligently doing just that, but hardly anyone listen and understand. It's just got me thinking, what happens if David is no longer with us? What then? It's just too depressing. Let's all pray for David.

0 Lord, save thy servant;
Which putteth his trust in thee.
Send him help from thy holy place;
And evermore mightily defend him.
Let the enemy have no advantage of him;
Nor the wicked approach to hurt him.
Be unto him, 0 Lord, a strong tower.
From the face of his enemy.
0 Lord, hear our prayers.
And let our cry come unto thee.

Not every pop star would refer to his career as "a little detour onto the road of music." But then, David Tao is not your typical pop sensation.
Tao burst onto the Asian music scene in 1997, winning two Golden Melody Awards in 1998 for Best Newcomer and Best Album Producer with his self-titled debut album. Since then, he has earned numerous awards throughout Asia as both a singer and producer. Though Tao has become known as "the king of Asian rhythm and blues," his most recent album, Soul Power, shows that his musical talent extends into pop, hip-hop and other genres as well. Tao's proteges, the Asian-American boy band Tension, have brought him further acclaim, as has his songwriting for other artists.
Born in Hong Kong and raised in both Taiwan and the U.S., Tao's views and music show the influence of both cultures. Here, David Tao shares his thoughts about his music, background, dreams and more with Advanced Studio Classroom writer Amy Klein.

Amy Klein: How do your childhood dreams compare with what you're doing now?

David Tao: When I was young, I never dreamed of being a musician. I was always very interested in many things and went through many phases. I've had jobs ranging from shoe salesman to one hour photofinisher to police officer. I majored in psychology and film, and after college I was planning to get into the film business. I still want to write and direct, although I've taken a little detour onto the road of music.
Your dreams change as you grow, but it's important to always have dreams and passions in life. I see a lot of people attend Ivy League schools and achieve academic excellence and then land great-paying, prestigious jobs but they are unhappy. Why? Usually because they are not doing what they enjoy. In essence, they are not fulfilling their dreams. That balance of being realistic and idealistic is very important in life.

Amy Klein: What makes it easy or difficult to have integrity in the pop industry?

David Tao: It is very difficult to maintain integrity in doing music. There is pressure from all sides to put out a product that is commercially viable yet musically innovative. However, these two things can often be at odds since the market is often slow in accepting new things. It's very easy to "sell out" and just make songs that pander to the general public, but soon you'll find your laziness catching up with you when you repeat yourself and are criticized for being out of date. If you can understand the market while still doing what you feel and love, then you should be able to find that happy medium. However, that's very difficult as you can see by how few musicians in Asia can survive for an extended amount of time.

Amy Klein: You've said you see music as a gift from God, and that your mission is to spread peace and love through your music. Could you tell us more about that?

David Tao: Music has the power to heal and destroy. Sometimes my music is angry and volatile but in the end I always want to provide solace and love through my music. It's not something I necessarily try to do but it just happens when I write—like when I wrote "Dear God." I just sat there with a guitar one day while feeling extremely depressed and then this melody came out of nowhere. At first, it was just a series of fragmented notes but later it led me to a song. It was quite amazing but I knew it was something sent from above.

Amy Klein: How have you found people perceive you as an "overseas Chinese" in the Asian pop industry?

David Tao: I have been educated in both Taiwan and the U.S. I feel like I had a great mix of both and am really a product of both cultures. I don't really know how people perceive me and, honestly, that's something I really don't think about. I just try to do what I do well and work hard at it. That's the most important thing. I try to constantly learn and educate myself about my surroundings and background because I feel it's important to know one's roots and stay true to them.

Amy Klein: How do you measure success?

David Tao: Success to me is when you can change the world for the better and become a better human being in the process. The world is full of problems and chaos, and if I can make it just a little bit happier and more hopeful, then I feel I have used my gifts from God to serve a greater purpose rather than just to glorify myself or what I'm creating. Success is when somebody comes up to me and says, "David, your music cheered me up and gave me hope in my darkest hour."

Amy Klein: If you were to do your career all over again, what would you do differently?

David Tao: I feel that everything I've done has been part of a plan. God's plan. Not everything I've done is perfect or even close to that, but I feel that I've tried to learn from my mistakes and shortcomings. I don't harbor regret. I try to move on and make changes in my life and behavior. Sometimes you just have to work your hardest and let God lead the way. I truly believe that.

Extra Interview Questions

What do you do to relax?
I enjoy driving and visiting museums very much. That's something I do quite a lot of while I'm back in L.A. I enjoy the space, the freeways and the sunshine. I enjoy racing and appreciate sports cars. I sometimes feel that I have too many hobbies because I'm so interested in so many things. I like to spend time alone since I grew up as a single child but I also enjoy hanging out with my friends since I don't get to see them often.

What three things are you most thankful for?
I'm thankful for having God in my life and that he constantly keeps me in check and leads me. I'm also thankful for all the friends, colleagues and family that are around me because I feel so loved and cared for. I also thank God for allowing me to see all of this and to be able to appreciate everything. I must admit that I have been very privileged and blessed but it's even more of a blessing to be able to see and cherish it. Some people have so much but they don't get to see it for some reason.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Two pieces of advice. One is that you can make anything happen if you work hard and believe. When in doubt, keep believing and work doubly hard. Don't let anyone tell you no or never. Second piece of advice is to have faith in God. Faith is hard to come by. More difficult than money, gold or power. The Bible often says, "...you of little faith..." And, yes, we are all often times of little faith. Yet when we have faith in God and let Him lead the way, we are always rewarded with more than we can imagine or ask for.

Of all the songs you've written, which is your favorite and why?
It's difficult to pick one particular song as my favorite since they each have different meanings to me. However, I am happy with "Black Tangerine" and "Dear God" as they are songs that reflect society and really express my feelings toward the world in which we live. The greatest feeling is being able to express yourself, and for me that would be through music. Technical achievements are not really a measure of success for me but rather the message I'm trying to get across. If music is trendy, popular and sonically amazing but it has no meaning then it's just a means to an end and that doesn't interest me.
