David interacting with his fans. Here vry interesting review of The Great Leap where the reviewer graded each song according to lyrics, melody, arrangement & vocals. The overall grade is 7.45 for lyrics, 8.18 for melody, 5.82 for arrangement, 9.09 for vocals giving the album a score of 7.636. The low grade for arrangement is cos David has deliberately made this album more simple & less complex in music arrangement. The reviewer felt this is a fair way to grade an album but he did stressed that of cos the most important is the meaning in this album. He felt that after Lou Dayou, David seemed to be only singer/composer who is able to create relevant, intelligent music. Also that David choose to walk his own musical path without worrying abt other things is rare indeed. He felt that as listeners we should try & see if we can learn something from this album.
Its the greatest wish of all musicians that listeners should be able to feel their heart in their music. I should hope most David fans can feel his heart in his music, so yeah I give this reviewer a big thumb up. I wish I could translate the whole review as its really vry thoughtful, intelligent & informed. Its so wonderful that at least one chinese reviewer understand what David is trying to do with this album. Yes, I agreed that it is not as outstanding as Black Tangerine music wise, but the meaning of this album is just as deep or perhaps even more deeply felt by David. It doesn't have the rage & edge of Black Tangerine, its more subtle & ask more questions without offering any solutions as there are none. In the end it become an album full of hope for the future, cos without hope we might as well give up rite? And David is not the kind of man who will ever give up hope.
