This is funny like sumone wanting to punch him. Anyway concert getting closer & closer. Anyone attending? Mark? I am so nervous with anticipation, think will post sum flower bunches @ DT forum just to calm my nerves heehee. Lengthy interview with David vry interesting (info credit Perfect David Tw Yahoo grp). When TW producer Wang approached him for some demos & chose 3, David innocently asked what he meant & Wang said he wanted to buy them. He gave David abt 1500-2000 US$ & that was when David realised he could make a living as songwriter. That was 11 yrs ago when he was 25. David said he was lucky to meet Wang as he was vry generous & gave him a lot of opportunities.
However David entered a 'dark period' when he came back to Taiwan to work as used to the sunshine & freedom of LA living, he found it difficult to adjust to living with his parents & the rainy weather.
Soon record companies began to notice his excellent vocals in his demos & approached with recording contracts but David did not accept any as he had no confidence in his appearance. But it was trying his patience & his ears suffered from producing for singers who could not really sing. Then he entered another 'dark period' when he was promoting his album he found that he could not speak properly, he forgot the lyrics & it was very painful for him but things got better as time went on.
David said his route is always different from others, he is slower than other singers & it may take ten yrs before he can see himself clearly. He felt he was someone who should not even be famous, took 2-3 yrs to release albums, not many commercials or promos. But yet he was able to survive till now so he believe that there are really people who are sincere in listening to music (like yr fans ^__^).
David believe that China is able to let diff chinese music flourish as it is bigger than HK or Taiwan. He said the next person to influence him was Lou Dayou. He started to listen to him since he was 10 even though he could not quite understand his music.
David revealed that Lou Dayou once wrote him a letter using hotel stationery. It was very messy but David kept it so he can show it to his children and tell them that Lou Dayou is a very important musician who change the music of China. In the letter Lou Dayou wrote abt the pain & struggle in creating his new album, and also gave David encouragement.
David was very moved after reading the letter. He felt some kind of power entering his body. He felt that Lou Dayou has transferred his power & feeling to him. Lou Dayou said that it was not easy to write chinese music but to never to give up. David said he felt like he was standing on Lou Dayou's shoulders so he can see further. He felt that every generation there must be someone like Lou Dayou to show us the way. If we are unable to widen our vision then we will stop improving. David felt that a lot of young people cannot understand Lou Dayou & those that can are very fortunate. He hope that if they become successful, they should also allow others to stand on their shoulders. No matter if its music or other arts, ppl like Lou Dayou are required or the creativity in China will suffer. The article ended by wondering if there is a 10 yr old somewhere listening to David like he was listening to Lou Dayou.
I felt so moved & emotional after reading. My wonderful idol.

hey zhaodi, how's it been? =O) I'm still well and surviving in the cold here in Australia.
And as always, enjoying your entries. I'm so excited David is starting his run of concerts again!!! I can still remember the first concert I attended which was the Black Tangerine one! It was fantastic. Straight after it ended, I wished I could pay for another ticket and watch the concert again.
Do you know the dates for the Singapore concerts? I hope I can be back to watch him!
I love this entry and the part about how when one allows you to stand on his/ her shoulders, you can see that much further. As with jobs or just with personal growth, we don't meet that many people that lets us stand on their shoulders. Too many people want to put us under their feet. But when we get that rare gem that lets us see further, it reminds us to pass it on and let others stand on our shoulders too. ;O)
All the best, zhaodi! =O)
