The beauty in David

Thank you so much Jane for all yr updates abt Beautiful release in Msia, hopefully it will be soon. Also thanks Jessie for msg on Bai Fen Bai. David will be on his way for his China promos. He probably in a bit of a rush to wrap up his activities so he can concentrate on his movie dream. When he was on Peach Protein, he seemed vry sure he will be filming by nxt yr. So basically Aug will be Beautiful promos, Sept back to TW to guest on Karen Mok's concert & Oct its rehearsal & concert in KL. At the moment not sure if he can fulfil his promise to hold concerts in US & Canada this yr.
Watched Help me from Guo Guang, Black World & Bai Fen Bai so here r my thoughts. Guo Guang was a bit subdued probably cos it was after the silly media speculation abt his private life so for once, David was not vry open & rather reserved. Also its really not the sort of program for David, vry little to do with music but making fun of basically everything. For sure there is audience for it but maybe not DT fans. David was not at his best but still he tried to entertain & answer questions with the same level of sincerity as he always shown.
Black World was lotsa fun & entertainment. Again the girlies tried to sing his songs as David showed how from rock, ballad to r&b. Then 4 girls sang ktv & it was interesting that they each picked his revised covers of old songs: Tuberose, Spring Wind, Moon over whose heart & Wan Bu Liao. They were all vry young & it just shows that even though still a lot of criticism abt David always doing covers, these girls would probably not have heard these great oldies if not for him. Actually quite a few chinese singers has done covers of oldies but none has quite the same success. I myself nvr heard of Tuberose & nvr did like Moon Over My Heart vry much. Spring Wind & Wan Bu Liao I like both the original & David's versions.
I like Bai Fen Bai the most cos David sang live throughout. He was in great form & I think did not forget any lyrics ^__^ Also I feel he seems to have improved a lot in singing live in a tv program. In the past he looked just a little uncomfortable but now he is a lot more relaxed. In fact he was just superb & he improvised a lot more too. He sang Wan Bu Liao, Airport in 10.30, Rain, Love Can, Susan Said & Too Beautiful. He did not sing complete songs but still vry vry vry impressive. Gonna have to bt this episode so can watch again & again *__*
But some real bad news *sigh* apparently a lot of insults hurled at David on some forum cos there were false reports he refused to appear on a local TW program & made some sort of comment abt Taiwanese not buying albums. Of cos all DT fans know he will never made such comments but other ppl believe it cos some sections of the media always make DT appear vry rude & arrogant. Lately most pixs they published of him are deliberately vry bad poses *roll eyes* Of cos many false reports abt DT in the past but this time it was just despicable, malicious, diabolical & PURE EVIL cos they even brought up his father, his nationality & allegiance in question. Still I strongly do believe good will eventually overcome evil so just let them say whatever till kingdom come.
Also slightly disappointed but not entirely unexpected abt mostly negative reviews on Beautiful. I am just nonplussed there are always complaints from both critics & listeners abt how repetitive, derivative & commercial Chinese pop music has become & yet when there is an album that brings music back to what it should be - pure melody, non-computerised arrangement, simple instrumentation & all abt the vocals - these people just ignored it. Also why always put a label on him. Just cos David has vry strong social msgs in his past few albums don't mean that this album is any less brilliant cos these msgs are missing. Actually I feel there is a vry important msg in this album. In the past, he speaks out abt his anger & fear abt the evil & injustice in the world. But now he thinks its time to heal & save the world. But the only way to do that is to see the beauty it possess, to try and love everything on it. That's not so bad a msg rite?

Hi Zhaodi,

I totally agree that DT totally rocks in the Bai Fen Bai program. A friend of mine helped me to record this and i was totally amazed when he first broke out in "Wang Bu Liao"! His pitch and voice were totally flawless... He sang so beautifully...I watched bai fen bai twice today... i agree... i am letting this album take a bit of time to sink into me before coming out with reviews too... I cant wait for the oct's gig in KL... :-) phiii
