Introducing *tada* Ultrasound - DT Interactive, sister site to this blog. I have been wanting to convert to a more interactive site for sum time but vry reluctant to leave Blogger. But its time to update cos interactive is the way to go for the best DT experience. I use Mutiply.com cos well I am lazy heehee & its was the first I found so I went with it, sumtimes intiution is the way to go too. Besides it has all the things I wanted, unlimited space (so they said) for pixs & not bad storage for media - 30mb.
I am still learning how the networking works so if u guys can leave sum emails so I can create sum contacts, also if you wanna sign up that would be great so there will be more space for media. At the moment I uploaded sum wallpapers & I did upload heaps of news media but it didn't show up *sob* so the site is not that stable. I was trying to use up all my month's pix allowance, maybe that's why haha. I am allowed to upload 160 pixs per mth.
Also upload a couple of Love Can concert live soundbyte - Let's fall in love & Moon over my heart. The 1st is cute as he told the audience they have been sitting too long, & the other he said in the beginning - even though there are no stars, there should be a moon. His voice really can make you melt ^__^ Both courtesy davidcn. Dun think I am infringing on copyright too much as the recording vry rough & both songs r such familiar DT favorites.
There r also 2 english songs - One last cry & American Pie. Again shouldn't be a problem with copyright as dun think David will ever sing these 2 songs again. But it will be a treat for his english fans to hear him singing in english, esp One Last Cry. Its not his best performance but for sum reason, its just crazily good the way he sang this song. As for American Pie, he sang in memory of Leslie Cheung so it will always be special for me.
The vids r a news clip on his Beijing concert & 2002 Variety show cos sumone requested for it. Unfortunately both did not upload fully only 2/3 complete but still can enjoy. I will have to replace these vids cos of the limited space but if u have any request for mvs or other files provided its not too big, I will try & upload. The interactive site is vry much Love Can at the moment, & I have included the 2 concert reviews by Mark. Hopefully there will be more reviews to come.
I hope this interactive site will give a more vivid picture of David Tao. Since there so little support for him in his own country *yeah yeah I know I am being such a drama queen heehee* fans must now help to promote him cos he is worth promoting. I am really so tired of candy/bubblegum pop, not that I am against it but when its 90% of the chinese music being heard, it does get too much. I want to be able to change to a chinese pop station & not have my ears siezed up from all that stickiness.
Its sad when singers, songwriters, lyrists are all scared of trying new things cos it will not appeal to the teenypoppers. When have children become the arbitar of what is good music? I honestly saw a msg where a child claimed that since the reviewer is in his 40s, how would he know what is good music... er...excuse me haha it's crazy world alrite. So yeah support good chinese music, support David Tao.

Song for Anita

Song for Anita
She came to mind, I can't help thinking of what was left unsaid
Youth aged suddenly, so quickly
Waiting...like the smiling Mona Lisa
Looking at her, like a flower precariously blooming on the edge of the cliff
Shall I let memory go beyond what's hidden
Love, takes away all my fear and concern
When will the everlasting wind cease to blow?
How long shall I endure this pain?
In my eyes,
The four seasons come and go, and had become eternal
The withered heart need not anyone's pity or discernment
She, is a dream, I never would want to wake from...
Anita
Music by David Tao, lyrics by David Tao & WaWa, sang by David Tao in The Great Leap 2005
I think she really got the feel of the whole song. She translated My Anata too, will post @ forum. Anyway this got me outta my sulky mood thanx chandelier *hugz* Still a bit mad @ how the media is writing abt David but really its nothing new. Reminded me Anita was quite the patroness, always supporting local talents in HK.
I remembered when I was kinda recuperating in Sydney how my auntie would support the local art scene by dragging me to all kinda experimental theater. The interesting thing was where they were staged. Once in a crypt where it was so cold my toes were totally numbed despite wearing kneehigh boots. Then in the museum where we had to follow the actors around the exhibits. In a kinda clock tower where we had to sit on the spiral staircase looking down on a makeshift stage, also we had to get up every half an hour as there were men in cloaks walking up & down the stairs carrying lanterns. In a disused train station where the stage was the sunken track. Although majority of the plays were not great there were some gems like a wonderful version of Red Riding Hood which explored old age where the wolf fell in love with the granny instead of eating her, a multicultural comedy set in a bistro & updated version of Harold Pinter's The Servant. Yeah it was a great way to support local playwrights & artists.

Was challenged to write poetry cos apparently it required talent, plse all you need is a computer & generator program like this where it take random words from the website & comes up with gibberish resembling poetry. Or this where it has templates you can insert words to create quite credible verses:
what have you wrought?
a miasma of misery as memories vanish.
once we savored bliss,
untainted and childlike,
but your desire drifted away.
a feverish morass of bitterness -
emotions follow rain, follow darkness,
love ground to dust.
in a torrent of vengeance,
i condemn you
My fav is this one where you write the first line & it completes the poem for you with hilarious results:
Most talented is David Tao
I cannot help but drink from your shoes
They asked me if I was loco
Panzer-man, panzer-man o you!
David Tao is back!
I keep drivin' past goin' twice as fast
It's googles of pudding you lack
How long do poems like this last (^__*)
So yeah instant poetry to go with our instant noodles & karaoke music. Another reason to love David who is nvr instant anything. He is really like wine, takes time to mature heehee

Tension is back!

Just a bit more on Rain altho dun wanna turn this into Rain blog +__+ Just wanna point out that Rain's mentor is Park Jin Young, talented songwriter/producer who successfully break into the US market & has written songs for American singers including Will Smith. Say what u like abt Rain but the standard of his albums r certainly worldclass. The songs are r specially written for him & they r not the usual syrupy pop karaoke stuff. When Rain first started out, he had to lipsynch cos he was not professional enough to sing & dance at the same time. He was embarrassed abt that & began serious voice training. Now he is confident to say that he hardly ever off-key when he sings & dances live.
Its easy to record a nice sounding album in the studio but to sound good live requires sum talent & a lot of hard work. It nvr all talent cos even the world's greatest singer still has to train. Rain put in the hard work cos he wanted to give the best performance on stage, yes he is not a great singer but at least he can project his voice & not sound off-key while he performed the moves in his own dance choregraphy. He is the consummate artist like David who went through so much work to bring us the best sound. So think before you dismissed Rain as just a 'dancer', do ppl called Usher just a dancer, what abt Michael Jackson? The 3 of them r dynamite on stage not cos they can dance but they put so much hard work into their choregraphy, singing & performance. Anyway who cares who hate on Rain, he is going to be HUGE.

Tension and poetry

Its strange when ppl wondered why Rain is so popular when both his songs & singing r not so great. As if there is such great music & singing coming from the chinese side. God I am so tired of the candy pop & the pretentious poetic lyrics. Poetry is the measured language of emotion. It's literature bringing out the beauty of the spoken word, its rhythm, rhyme & harmony. Surely setting poetry to music will defeat this purpose. I am sorry but I have never understood why it's so clever to write song lyrics like a poem. Maybe its just me. *sigh*

David and cars

Decided to abstain from western classical music for a while haha & listen to chinese classical music. Forgotten how much I like Besieged or Shi Mian Mai Fu in chinese which literally means Ten Sides Surrounded. Remembered watching the filming of Kung Fu Hustle & Stephen Chow used a live vry large chinese orchestra to play all the music, it was vry good. I wondered if the soundtrack is available. Go here if u wanna sample some chinese classical music, I recommend Besieged. Tan Dun is also vry good, his CTHD score featuring Yo-Yo Ma is truly a masterpiece. So dun have to go West to get inspiration, lots in the East.

The China in David

Japan & Korea always have the tradition of local support which certainly boost their filmmaking so they are able to have excellent, sophisticated movies with good box office. Certainly the audience in Japan can accept local arthouse movies that dun aimed for an international market. No surprise that Korea's April Snow did better there than HK's Initial D despite the latter being based on a Japanese anime.
To date Hollywood has remade or plans to remake more Japanese & Korean movies like Ring, Dark Waters, Grunge, Shall We Dance, Ill Mare, The sisters. Despite chinese movies being the acknowledged kungfu exponents in Hollywood, it was a Thai martial movie, Ong Bak, that got ppl all over the world excited.
Not to say there hadn't been good chinese movies but they had limited release like last yr Golden Horse winner - Kekexili: Mountain Patrol. Chinese audience has to make an effort to support good chinese movies because if they dun, nobody else would certainly not the Japanese, Korean or American. And if they dun, then there will be less & less chinese ppl willing to invest time & money to make a good movie as it will definitely not make any money. So more & more chinese movies will be made purely for entertainment & profit, not that they are no good but there has to be a balance or chinese entertainment will suffer. This is more or less what Jackie Chan was trying to say.

But in his music you can hear not just western influences but his tribute to chinese music. From the very first album - Spring Wind, Seventeen, second album - I'm Ok, Tuberose, third album - Moon over my heart, 22 to the fourth album - Susan Said, The Art of War, Song for Anita. Its vry subtle, not hitting you over the head with overplay of chinese instruments. In every one of his album, I can feel his chineseness & its not that he is proud to be chinese or trying to show the world what it is to be chinese or making a chinese statement or anything like that.

Not that I am saying you have to be chinese to appreciate his music because he is not making music for chinese people but a chinese musician making music. That's why he has nvr been credited with 'blowing the chinese wind' till The Great Leap. Unless you are his fan, probably nvr noticed that he was using chinese instruments long before it became the trend & he nvr wanted to make a 'chinese statement'. He just used it in his music as appropriate. He has always been the innovator in his music whether its r&b, rock, soul, country, traditional chinese, folk Japanese, but cos he does it so well, his music nvr scream for attention. Just another one of the thousand reasons why I love & admire him so much.
