EMI has submitted Tai Mei Li in various categories for GMA probably going head to head with Jay's Still Fantasy but David will probably not turn up & dun think he will win any awards this yr.
Pan's Labyrinth is nominated in 6 Oscar categories including Best Foreign Film which could well be a 1st for a foreign movie of fantasy genre. Curse of the golden flower only got 1 nom for best costume design which could be disappointing for some but probably many heaved sighs of relief that perhaps Chinese directors will cease making wuxia epics for a while ^__^ The Japanese actress, Rinko Kikuchi, up for Best supporting actress in Babel which is ironic considering the controversial casting in Memoirs of Geisha last yr. Also highly ironic if Martin Scorsese finally take home the directing Oscar for redux of an Asian film.
Still the nominations vry interesting this yr with possibility that Best actor, supporting actor & supporting actress be awarded to black actors. Much as I like Will Smith & think he is really a vry good actor, I prefer the less highly profiled Forest Whitaker to win as this guy is such a perfectly nunaced actor. Like Tony Leung, he can emote just through the expression in his eyes.

Pan's Labyrinth is a great movie not to be missed, i've watched it too. Particularly like the ending, tho in some eyes, the dying part was sad but i like the fact tat she'd found peace in her fantasy world. Sometimes the reality hurts so much that one would wish to stay in the fantasy. And for a young age like her, she's entitled to that kind of imaginary world but to a grown-up like me, it may just seem not possible which is sad.
Anyway, like zhao, I strongly recommend this movie. Go catch it when you've the time but do watch out for some abhorrent scene. :P
