DT & Matzka

Thanks to DT I am youtubing the marvellous Matzka, GMA winner of best band. They are a four-member indigenous band from Taitung singing a wonderful fusion of reggae, rock, heavy metal & aboriginal music. The lead singer has the most amazing vocals & the song they sang during GMA already won an award in a rock festival in Taiwan. I am surprised the mv for this song was not nominated nor the singer nominated for best indigenous singer. David was also impressed with William 'Weibird' Wei who won the best artist award. Wei's fav idol is DT & apparently the first song he learned on the guitar was Regular Friend. When one of Wei's fans replied in his Weibo that Wei was disappointed not to meet him during GMA, DT promptly left a msg on Wei's Weibo to 'keep in touch'. Wei will also begin his military duty in Nov this year & has already been selected as the lead vocalist for the military band along with Sodagreen's guitarist A-Fu. They will be singing to promote anti-drug awareness. Good to know at least these guys are not terrified of losing their fans or newly-won fame while serving their country. As for juvenile fans, when DT announced the winner he clearly said "Jay .. Chou" not "J .. Chou" so any misunderstanding is just moot as far as I am concerned.

DT & the president

A really lovely pix of David at the GMA last nite. He was there to present the best male singer award which went to Jay Chou. Was wondering whether he was gonna be there as he was quite active in the pre-promotions from announcing the nominations to appearing in commercials. However he did not walk the red carpet nor did he perform. He did however had a brief moment with the president of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou: DT also announced in his Weibo that he will be a judge in the Taiwan's version of American Idol, Ten Million Star, in July. Not sure if it screens here but hope to catch it somehow as I will really like to see what he is like as a judge. It's really good to see him looking so suave and gentlemanly, and glad that he is doing his bit for the music industry in Taiwan.

DT & The Mushrooms

David is apparently the first guest in Harlem Yu's new music program. I guess they are in such gaudy clothes cos they are playing 60s music, still their guitars are cool. Here's a vid of their press conference where DT was asked abt marriage again. Well, I am happy if he gets married but I am not really concerned. He is 40 plus & should be able to go out with single women whenever he wants. The Chinese press always tries to make a big deal abt it. It's not a SIN to date, people, with consenting women in their twenties. More exciting news is this where it was claimed the following:
Esoteric fact to show everyone you know what you’re talking about: Shanghai rap/rock quintet The Mushrooms (Tang Stage, May 8, 3:50 p.m.) remain active despite a recent break from live performances. They are currently in the studio under the helm of Taiwanese pop/rock sensation David Tao.
The Mushrooms (蘑菇团) was actually the winner of the band competition hosted by David in 2008 when he was spokesman for Iced Tea in China. Above you can see then holding aloft their winning cheque for Rmb10000 & here they performed with David on stage. More info on them here. They certainly have vry dedicated fans & even won the approval of a few expatriates in Shanghai. Quite amazing for an indie chinese band that has not even released an album yet. Earlier this year, it was rumored that they were signed up by DT. OK not sure abt this as I do believe his company only provide songwriting & studio production. However, I do hope it's true & that David will write songs for them or produce for them. They are really quite amazing live & their english covers are excellent. I think it will be a winning combination.
