Sunday in One Utama

Correction, David got both album & single into the top 10 lists of the Chinese Musician Club *confused* cos they put his name on top. He was the only artist in both lists so had the honor of revealing the winners. The list is compiled by mostly ppl in the music business & do not depend on sales or popularity. In answer to David's query abt Leehom not making the list, one of the judges said that Heroes was among the 30 albums in consideration but did not make the top 10. Anyway its only a yearly thing to judge 10 top albums & singles so its not any reflection on Leehom's status as one of the top singer/composers in Taiwan.
Look at his poor hand *pain* Still unable to play keyboard so new album release target now Jul/Aug but plse take care, its ok we can wait. The main thing is let your hand heal plse. Anyone attending Malaysia promo plse kiss it better ^__^ But seriously do tell him to take care & not play his guitar. Thanks again star_lady for more info:
Venue: One Utama
Time: 2.30pm
How to get there
So exciting that he will be so close in 2 days. Probably final time he will be seen in public before flying to LA to work on album (but not too hard, looking after hand more important) so hope SGFC will have plenty of pixs to enjoy!

05/07 - David in Malaysia!

David got the best album, The Great Leap, as well as best song, Susan Says, in 2005 from the Chinese Musicians Club *clap clap* 10 albums & 10 songs are selected each year & not sure if its the 1st time a singer got both best album & song. Nice to see that list of albums & songs differ which meant a good song can still be in the list even though the album is not so good, & an album can be good overall while not having an outstanding song. Eg Penny Dai's album selected but no song & Wu Bai's Made in Taiwan selected but not album.
I am really glad for once Susan Says is selected as I do think its such an influential song. Its really make ppl realised that chinese operatic music is not so different and inaccessible after all. The song is so evocative of ancient times & yet so modern at the same time. Also an old-fashioned love song with East-West melody. Really happy that it has been acknowledged at last & by Chinese musicians. David was happy & proud at this honor but he regretted that Leehom's work was not also acknowledged. Actually a bit confused as not sure which album is being judged, Shangrila released 12/04 or Heroes released 12/05. If its the former then agreed with David but the latter not really sorry >"< But here someone with similar view.
Thank you star_lady of SGFC for news flash - David will be in Malaysia this Sunday 05/07! Plse visit SGFC for more details. Guess he is stopping by enroute to LA for some concert promo. When asked if he will attend GMA in June, David's answer is once again negative. He will be working on album in LA. Guess the rift is still not healed *sigh*
Anyway he dun need more awards for The Great Leap. Hope his finger is getting better. Looking forward to his 5th studio album & live concert dvd. Decided to do Tension South Park style cos miss the guys so much but its hard to do them cos they dun really have a distinct style. Put all the South Parks up @ Interactive ^__^ Btw did a search for them @ youtube & there's quite a bit including Doritos cms. Hope to see them again real soon.

Quiet achievement

David has a song in the soundtrack of a 2002 Canadian movie called Face starring Bai Ling who actually quite a fine actress despite her offscreen antics. The movie won quite a few film awards & Small Town Girl is the only chinese song in the soundtrack:
ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK - includes theme song "Face" written and performed by Naughty by Nature, and hip-hop artists Mos Def, Pharoahe Monche, Delinquent Habits, Tre Hardson of the Pharcyde, as well as Chinese superstar David Tao (winner of MTV-Asia's Best Male Artist and Best Album Awards).
SONG LIST:
Small Town Girl - David Tao
Mr. Weatherman - Adriana Evans
Just Can't Hold On - Tre Hardson
Commonwealth - Bahamadia
The Light - Pharoahe Monche
Climb - Mos Def
Boulevard Star - Delinquent Habits
Hope U Do - Stephen Simmonds
Whyl-A-Baneene - Othorized Fam
Open Wide - Kim Hill
Bring It On Back - Othello
Monday Eve - Bay Sa
Take My Breath Away - Lonnie D. Hillyer
Face - Naughty by Nature

Feel so proud of him altho I am sure that other chinese songs probably been in the soundtrack of other english movies except we dun get to hear abt it. Still its nice to report on this quiet achievement of our Dave ^__^ Just a pity they got him as winner of MTV-Asia which is wrong as he has nvr received any >"< Just as well as I dun really have any opinion on this strange asian award show which featured mostly non-asian recipents. David did however received MTV award for best chinese video when they were originally more into the videos & not the entertainment fest that it has become now.
