Some cutesy pixs of David taken during recent interview in HK *big thank you to Woodstock @ DT HK Fansite* Unfortunately small white text on black bg made it difficult to read >"< He looked really awkward, but in a sweet way ^__^ Vry gorgeous flash of Beautiful promo in HK also thanks to DT HK Fansite. Some vry silly rumors published abt David *sigh* Let just ignore & it will all go away pretty soon. David is not the sort who hogs the headline heehee (Pixs reposted from Yahoo Hong Kong)
Seems China putting all her eggs in 1 basket & sending to the Oscars not 1 but 2 costumed epics with Curse of the golden flower representing mainland & The Banquet representing HK. Not interested in watching either of them cos they have pretty similar storyline: ambitious empress plotting to overthrow corrupted emperor. The Banquet is adapted from Hamlet & looks gorgeous in the trailer but even from the few shots, I can already see Zhang Ziyi channeling her usual feisty oriental girl persona for the nth time *yawn*
Curse is adapted from classic Chinese play Thunderstorm & was said to have received amazingly good reviews. But I honestly do not want to see Chow Yun Fat as an old corrupted emperor. I yearned to see him sleek & handsome again holding 2 guns in his hands. Yes I hopeless romantic *__* As for Gongli, we all know she can act the drama queen out of a paperbag so no surprises. She does look supremely beautiful even with her breasts popping all over the place which I think is not historically correct. In fact both movies supposedly from the same era look vry different. Jay Chou did not look good in his golden armour sorry to say. He looks more like a baddie than the filial son he is portraying. While Liu Ye who, if the story follows Thunderstorm faithfully, is the weak, philandering elder son but looks much too macho & heroic.
Actually Liu Ye is a really fine actor who strangely enough has not caught much attention despite his extremely good looks & physique -- he is 186m. I noticed him first in Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. He will be appearing in a english movie called Dark Matter with Meryl Streep which may turn him into a well-known international star.

DT, KTV & Sony
David looks absolutely sweet here, lost the rite amt of weight but hair still too short. This was @ autograph session & Marry me today ktv contest in Shanghai. The winner was a female fan all the way from Japan WOW Japan fans are the most devoted ^__^
David said that he has been to Tokyo once but has nvr promote in Japan, still everytime he has activities, there are always a few Japanese fans surprising him. More great pixs here just click on nos below.
Sony Ericsson has released the most adorable & coolest DT accessories *I WANT I WANT* except for the watches which are not really as stylish as the IWC he is wearing me think. (Link credit Yumiko blog)
TW fan @ TW Yahoo grp has posted really nice, clear clip of David @ Jolin's concert including the hug & kiss. It was funny the way he kept holding on to her hand while Jolin tried to wave her arms. Of cos he forgot some lyrics as usual *sigh* but forgive him cos he really looked vry special that night.

Yes I do
Saw newsclip of David & Jolin singing Marry me today in her concert & it was so cute after he finished the rap & Jolin answered 'Yes I do' then hugged him so tightly, forgetting they still had to finish the chorus. But David was vry professional as he continued to sing. Even though there was no dancing like with Show Luo, their segment was really sweet & entertaining.
Apart from Show Luo, strangely enough I find that David has better onscreen chemistry with Jolin than other male singers. Probably because they really do like & respect each other & there is no danger of romantic entanglement. In the Beautiful TV Special, they were shown recording in the studio & during the break, David taught Jolin how to speak Spanish ^__^ Can see they really get along & enjoy each other company. Hope they have more opportunities to cooperate in future.
The Beautiful TV special is really wonderful with many footage of David working with various musicians in the studio. Just such a privilege to see the painstaking process he took to produce this album. If he wanted I guess, he could come up with the album that everybody felt that he should do. But because he is an artist first & foremost, he had to do what his inner self wanted him to do & work with a bunch of musicians to try & develop the same musical feel. He said during the special that many fans told him that listening to Beautiful was like listening to a continuous song so he felt he has achieved what he set out to do.
Really think he was brave to go for this kinda cohesive album when trend in chinese entertainment is more for variety from dance, hiphop, r&b to ballad. The special also featured behind the scene mv shoot of Marry me today, Tai Mei Li & Can't get you outta my mind. Tai Mei Li was adorable where David put on his vry cool Ducati jacket despite a hot day & rode the same model bike he had his accident with in LA. So screamingly funny when he had to stroke & talk to the horse cos he was afraid of it. The horse trainer had to reassure him it was vry docile like a dog. What an urbanite! Hope he will not encounter one in A Famosa Cowboy Town :P
When David was recording in Shanghai, there was unexpected appearance of Andy from Tension *__* Really miss them *sob* David mentioned Vanilla Sky again when talking abt filming Wang Bu Liao mv, he must really like this movie. So far I find all 4 mvs extremely enjoyable & David looked so yummylicious in all of them. Looking forward to Olia mv. Find newsclip of Jolin's concert @ youtube but no cute hugging just the kiss. China promo: Henan
David on the move again to Henan to hold meet-the-fan session. He said reason Henan fans are so passionate could be cos his granddad (father of his mother) is originally from Zhengzhou. Watch here as one of the fans went on stage to teach him how to greet in the local lingo as well as molest him heehee Lotsa ppl like to molest him on stage it seems but guess its understandable as he is vry molestable ^__^
One Henan fan was a guy who was having problem with his legs. He went to Henan for treatment & knowing that David was arriving, went to the airport to meet him with the help of his mom. David was vry touched & gave him an autograph as well as posed for pixs making the fan extremely happy *tear*
David also held autograph session & it was estimated that at least 2000 fans turned up bearing flowers, Henan specialities & other gifts. David felt that Henan fans have very high standards & natural ear for good music. So when asked abt the recent criticism of Tai Mei Li for being too bland, David said he did not make music to please his fans. Although some may not like his new album, David said he has also make many new fans judging from the ppl who told him that they only recently started listening to his music. This made David feel that his fans in Henan are able to appreciate music without prejudice.
When asked if he is considering filming a 'tragedy' like described in his song title 'Self-directed and self-acted tragedy', David said his first film will not be a tragedy or wuxia. He likes comedies but not the slapstick kind. He said he may even consider Henan as the location to film so they may see him again nxt year. Hope his guest appearance in Jolin's Shanghai concert went well with no forgetting lyrics. Really cannot understand how he can keep forgetting lyrics when he sing the same songs all the time. Maybe he IS getting old :P

More Jiangxi clips
He looked rather tired with circles under his eyes. Hope he takes care of himself. As usual, he wears his IWC watch & gold chain with panache ^__^ Love the longer hair esp as its falling all over his face *silent scream*
More updated clips of his interview, just click captions under pixs to watch. 9 clips in total including greeting. He answered questions from his album, lipbalm, marriage to China-inspired music. Like the way he answered firmly when asked if he would starred in his movie that its best to get ppl who can really act. He felt that its unfortunate in Chinese entertainment there are singers who cannot sing, actors who cannot act & dancers who cannot dance. He said there should be more professionalism but I think we are fighting a losing battle here *sigh*
More pixs & news abt his appearance @ Star Face to Face. Apparently he did not give his first kiss but received it *__* It was in high school when after lunch with a girl, they waited for the bus home. When the bus arrived, the girl suddenly kissed him on the lips & quicky boarded the bus. David was so stunned that he missed the bus. He didn't say when he gave his first kiss though! Check out the cool autograph he gave Ta Jiang forum :D

China promo: Jiangxi
David appeared on Star face to face @ Jiangxi TV China. This is his 2nd time after The Great Leap promo. I think probably he enjoys the informal setting where he can get close to his fans. His fans were all vry passionate & kept yelling 'Tao Zhe jia yu' & 'Tao Zhe chen shuai' so David praised them as the most beautiful ^__^
The themes of the program was 'First kiss', 'Wedding Clothes', 'Proposal' & 'Bride' so David can share his experiences with his fans. David revealed that his first kiss was accidentally 'given away' in a bus. Not sure how old he was, probably vry young heehee
David was his usual humorous self & kept making the audience laugh. Cos of his director's dream, they specially prepared a skit with a couple using his songs - Can't get you outta my mind, Melody, Small town girl & Who do you love.
Before the program, David was interviewed & afterwards recorded online msg to wish everybody 'good health & happiness every day' *__* He looked so super shuai in his orange shirt, vry man!
Btw best wishes to our Thai & Taiwanese fans who are experiencing some political turmoil in their countries. Take great care & hope everything will turn up satisfactorily for all concerned.

Vanilla sky
Love him when he laughs like that -- so adorable. Watch Sina clip where can see mbrs of Zhe Mi Tian Tan in front holding up placards with his name & extremely cute cartoon David ^__^ His chinese name looks so distinctive, vry special. David should be on his way to Shanghai to continue his album promo which includes ktv contest for Marry me today where the winner gets to sing the duet with him.
Answering to Angel, not too sure what kind of loneliness David meant. But having watch 2 of the movies before - AI & Vanilla Sky - the David characters are similiar in their alienation & inability to connect with the people around them. Both of them are looking for their version of 'happiness' which is manifested in the woman they think they love most but actually they love themselves the most which is what led to their loneliness. Hmmmm ... do hope David is not exactly like that but still most of us are a bit like that rite? In our pursuit of happiness, we usually put ourselves first not the person we want to share our happiness with. This is also the reason David's music is so real to me. In one interview he said that when he heard John Lennon's Jealous Guy, he was amazed that a man would show the world his ugly side. I think this has influenced his music alot as he is vry seldom the noble, forgiving, silently suffering man in his music. Take the song Forever where he sang out desperately abt his pain & unwillingness to end a love affair. It does remind me of the David in Vanilla Sky who only wants to taste the sweetness of love & never the bitterness.

Finally
Poor David getting molested during HitFm concert ^__^ He started the concert with Can't get you outta my mind & Finally.
Here he modestly buttoned up his shirt again. Such a sweetie. Apparently can listen to the concert @ Hitoradio but I nvr know how to negotiate that site >"< A nice closeup during his fans gathering. He sang a bit of Forever. (Pixs credit & much thanks to Zhe Mi Tian Tan)
Abt The Terrace Mark has posted in Comments (scroll down) that singer of the band is from Canada but speaks/sings fluent Mandarin *WOW thank u Mark* So those in HK or visiting Shenzhen might wanna drop in & listen to Leon sing Ghost, Rain & Sula and Lampa. Should be wonderful experience *__* Finally Finally has been posted @ youtube at last! vry charming mv & really showcase David's modest acting. He looks extra yummy as a relief teacher. The girl is also gorgeous with huge eyes & vry good acting. Good chemistry between them makes it really enjoyable & wish it was longer. Anyway enjoy!

David Tao: Return to Romance
2006-09-11 17:06:52
Broadcasting Time: 2006-09-10
Hi, welcome to this edition of China Beat. I'm your host Yuting. Today we'll feature David Tao's latest album for your listening pleasure. After one-year-and-seven-months of silence, veteran R&B singer David Tao is back in the spotlight with his fifth studio recording, Beautiful. Said to be his most expensive album, Tao spent time visiting musicians and gathering inspiration from all over for the new album. His excursions to Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Los Angeles and New York made it surpass all of his previous works in budget. The album is named, Beautiful, because, as David Tao says, he wants people to "share in his feeling of cherishing the beautiful moments in one's life." Now let's listen to the title track, Too Beautiful.
Too Beautiful 4:55
That was David Tao with Too Beautiful. Being a bit of a perfectionist, David Tao has gotten the nickname "Delay Tao" as he could never release an album before a deadline. Well, his new album, Beautiful, could be his most efficient. It only took him one and half years to finish all the writing, arrangements and recording for it. Consider the fact that his usual pace is two to three years to release an album,Tao even jokes himself that this time he has "handed in his homework on time."
Like before, David Tao once again features a cover of an old song in his new album, this time it's ‘Can't Get You Outta My Mind.' The song makes use of Tao's signature way of using western style to re-create Chinese ballads. For this cover, he chose an old school hip-hop style, making it a far cry from the original, which is deep and sorrowful. Despite the title, ‘Can't Get You Outta My Mind,' David Tao says the song is actually a satire, based on urbanites' amnesia and their instant-noodle-like love. See if you like his new experiment.
Can't Get You Outta My Mind 3:58
The Chase 3:29
That was ‘The Chase,' part of David Tao's new album, Beautiful. Being the Father of Chinese R&B, so much anticipation has surrounded David Tao's new album that he has failed to win favorable reviews from the critics. Many say the album is too plain and lacks the critically social commentaries featured in his previous two albums, Black Tangerine and The Great Leap. Facing accusations that he is becoming less talented and ambitious, David Tao had this to say in a recent journal entry: "I agree that this album is different from Black Tangerine and The Great Leap; however, I don't think this album is less musical or genuine than previous albums. On the contrary, I feel it is my most musically cohesive and unified album. Perhaps because of the larger percentage of ballads and slower tempo songs, some people feel this album isn't as ambitious, but I tend to disagree. The lack of aggressive, socially critical songs in the rock genre should NOT be confused with a lack of direction, inspiration or creativity." Well, I agree. I guess music is truly just for music's sake. You can't expect an artist to always make his work a commentary on society. Even if he doesn't get bored with it, we would. Alright, let's continue with the music, this is
Walk On 3:05
Olia 4:46
This is Olia, from David Tao's new album ‘Beautiful.' David Tao has not only caught us off guard by releasing his new album sooner, he's given us a little surprise with his new-look for the album. Tao once said that his previous two albums, Black Tangerine and the Great Leap, were darker because of his mental mood at the time, and more importantly, he wanted to highlight various problems in terms of the larger environment. However, this time, Tao takes off his black leather jacket, and puts on classic white suits; he puts down his wild electric guitar and holds up red roses and a dove. The new album certainly features a much fresher David Tao. It seems he's gotten all prepared to present us a view of the world from another angle, opening a door for us to peak into his beautiful memories of the unforgettable.
So Beautiful 4:30
So Beautiful, the song became a favorite with a TV ad even before the album's release. As a sensitive talent, 37-year-old influential musician, David Tao's real emotional life is rather obscure, so much so that his fans can only get a clue about it from his songs. So Marry Me Today has inevitably become a tune of interest. David Tao says this song indeed tells what's going on in his life and that he may consider getting married in time. But with whom still remains a question. Anyway, here is David Tao featuring Jolin Tsai, Marry Me Today.
Marry Me Today 4:32
That was Marry Me Today, a very lovely tune. David Tao compares the course of falling in love and getting married finally as the exchange of four seasons and has given a very romantic picture of the ceremony, and it has almost changed my impression of Jolin. I didn't know she can sing, you know... For this Album, David Tao says he has tried to bring some of flavor of the classic Soul sounds of the 60's by using string and horn arrangements along with an acoustic yet grooving rhythmic section. He says "With the Mandarin music scene congested with hip hop, rap, pop and everything in between, I thought a bit of classic old Soul flavor would give me a new musical playground to explore." In this album, Forever probably has the most classic soul feel. Within its Chinese title literally meaning "No Love Anymore," Tao sings about the lingering sorrow and love that lasts far after a breaking-up.
Forever 3:25
How Long 4:07
The song we've just heard is called How Long. Time progresses rapidly; and we feel even more of this in this media driven age, with many arresting moments sneaking away without being appreciated. In this album, David Tao has sought to capture some of his own beautiful moments that have come during his 37-years on earth. His memories and stories of freedom and love showcase his genuine romantics. Before we wrap up today's China Beat - Hope you enjoyed it - If you have any questions or suggestions, just write to us at English Service, China Radio International, Beijing, China, postal code 100040, or email us at ChinaBeat@crifm.com. And to know more about Chinese contemporary music, you can visit our website: www.crienglish.com where the previous editions of our shows are available for your online listening pleasure. Ok, I'm Yuting in Beijing, leaving you with Wish You Happy. See you next time!
Pix & transcript reposted from CRIENGLISH.COM
Yuting managed to sneak in 'I don't wanna know' which she called 'Wish you happy' even though its supposed to be banned in China but David did say the song will appear in another version of Tai Mei Li to be released -- all vry mysterious. Tickets still available for KL Love Can concert on 10/28, book online here *__*
Vry interesting place in Shenzhen called The Terrace where the band "is working on songs from the new David Tao album" WOW & not only that but I believe the lead singer of the band dun look entirely asian ^__~ David, dear David, you are such an amazing artist able to inspire people from all over the world. You prove that music is universal & if done from the heart, music is able to transcend all languages & barriers *wonder if its the same Mark?*
Lastly David held his fans gathering successfully although the attendance was not very high due to traffic disruption & congestion caused by the ongoing rally in Taipei to oust President Chen & Typhoon Shanshan. Pixs link already posted by fan who attended @ DT forum.

Jolin in the house
Sorry to be so misleading but I dun have his msn. I dun even know David has msn ^__^ Anyway the writer of this article which I transcripted probably has his msn. So tomorrow will be his last autograph session in TW then David will be heading back to China to guest in Jolin's concert & continue with his album promo till Oct where he will probably come here to rehearse for his KL concert. I read over at TW Yahoo grp that when asked when he will release Love Can concert dvd, David said that he is considering releasing a best of concert combining highlights of both Soul Power & Love Can concerts. I think that's a marvellous idea but it will have to wait until after the KL concert. So KL concertgoers, make sure you do yr bit so it will be included *__*
I still haven't seen Finally mv & no sight of it over @ youtube but I found this Marry me today cm for Tai Mei Li where it claimed the song came first in requests, ktv & downloads.
Below is fan vid of Karen singing Marry me today with David in her TP concert. The audience was singing so loudly that you could hardly hear them singing heehee

Happiness is ...
Lately David has been using "Do you know what happiness is, David?" for his MSN personal msg. This line is from the movie Vanilla Sky. Hm ... seems he is really really really into movies. Anyway he is not very happy lately *why David? we still love you* ^__^ He feels some empathy with the movie Vanilla Sky as the main character is also called David & wore the same IWC watch, while the female character drove a similar car, Ford Mustang. While driving the car, she asked the David character the happiness question. He said that David appeared in 3 of his fav movies: Vanilla Sky, Artificial Intelligence & 2001: Space Odyssey. These 3 movies all have unexpected ending while all 3 David characters suffered from similiar loneliness. David said that he could find images of himself in all the 3 Davids. Seems he is really getting into directing gear, love him when he is so focused. Hope he finds his happiness soon maybe when he start making his film, he will find his first love & be happy again.
I think this is the IWC watch that he wears all the time. It must be quite monstrous as it looks huge on his wrist which is not small. I always notice the watch as its quite prominent. It looks so rite on him, so full of character. He also wears the same gold chain all the time & only takes it off for promo accessories. Its so much a part of him that he looks odd without it ^__^ I like that he wears the same watch & chain all the time. Kinda shows his steadfast character, vry honorable. Cos he has been travelling so often for Beautiful promo, David has made 2 new friends - room service & Mcdonalds *__* He can be so mature & childlike at the same time, vry adorable. Taking abt friends here's mv for Bibi's Don't love me as a friend & behind the scenes. Getting to like this song alot, very soothing & Bibi's voice is excellent.
EMI has announced that there will be no repackaging of Tai Mei Li but a new gift of a special David photo Memo will be given with new album purchase in TW. Not sure if its a photobook or just memo pad with David pixs. Anyway lucky TW fans!

David is better!
Very yummy pix of David but do wish they let his hair grow. Good news! Msg posted at EMI msgboard has assured that David is much better & will be able to resume his TW promo activities this weekend. I think he has a meet-the-fans session on 9/16 & will be performing in a large-scale concert for HitoRadio anniversary on 9/17. Also Finally mv has been released & TW fans said its really good so hopefully get to see it soon.
The Golden Lion @ Venice Film Festival has gone to a little-known Chinese film by Jia Zhangke called Still Life which is abt the impact of the controversial Three Gorges Dam project in China. This film, like most of Jia's films, will most likely not be able to screen in mainland China. Anyway goes to show that it dun required big budget costumed epics for Chinese directors to win international awards. I only seen one of Jia's film, The World, which is also the only one that is allowed to be screened in China. Jonathan Rosembaum named it the top movie of 2005. Quite a brilliant movie but not very accessible. It really does paint a rather gloomy picture of the possible future & further development of China, although Jia did leave a slight ray of hope at the end. The other interesting thing abt Jia is like WKW, he would have various characters in his movies speak in their native dialect to inject realism. Not all Chinese speak the same language, in fact most don't & Mandarin can be as foreign as Korean or Japanese in some parts of China. Guess David knew of this - another Chinese director receiving world recognition - & hopefully it will inspire him in his movie dream ^__^

Rock on!
David's interview @ Hitoradio where he said he has been listening to Audioslave lately. Kinda encouraging cos Chris Cornell who is the amazing vocal in Audioslave is still rocking at 42, there's hope that David may still have time to come out with a rock album ^__^
Here's a wonderful writeup on David @ CIM Radio, online radio station based in NY, proving I am not the only believer in the cyberworld. Thank you David for believing we will be able to appreciate the music you want to do. Must be difficult with all the criticism cos even though he knows they dun know any better but still it must hurt a bit. So he is not only an extremely talented musician but courageous one as well. Hope he is feeling better now. Lastly Audioslave's Cochise vid @ youtube from their 1st self-titled album. Just luv the headbanging sound. Rock on David!

Get well soon David!
Oh dear >"< David is still sick. He is suffering from abdominal pains & was put on a drip due to dehydration I guess. Hope he feels better now & not worry abt cancelling the autograph sessions. His TW fans are extremely understanding even though disappointed at not being able to see him. Main thing is rest more & get well soon.
Misunderstanding @ shoutbox all cleared up now ^__^ thanks vry much Jessie B, Sukyee & Fumigor. Hope u guys continue to support David. Its true that lately I have been protective of David. Guess cos I feel he is always so protective of those close to him. When he read out his statement to the press abt their rumormongering, he said by doing so they are hurting the ppl close to him and caused him to be misunderstood by his fans. I felt touched by his concern not just for himself. He is so able to think outside the box. Any rumor suffered by the celebrity will also reflect on their family. How do you think the parents of Gillian felt when they found out their daughter was secretly photographed in her changing room? Of cos admittedly celebrities & media feed each other too as rumors can boost the profile of one & circulation of the other. But there are some like David who honestly dislike scandals. To him, the feelings of his family, friends & his fans are more important. So just make me rather protective of him *__*

Milestones
Great pix of David performing in a large-scale concert in Guangzhou. He sang Rain & Can't get you outta my mind. Then he went & bake a birthday cake for the anniversary of HitFm. He said that he once hid a necklace in a cake he baked for his gf who after receiving the gift, took off without even eating the cake leaving him disappointed.
He looked rather suave as he attended another anniversary, 65th for the label Coach. He said that he has used their accessories before & even bought some as gifts for his dad. David had a few autograph sessions today but was cut short when he was taken ill >"< Do hope nothing serious & he has a speedy recovery.
Here's a review of sorts regarding recent singers' collaborations. First off, its a far stretch to describe Jay Chou/Fei Yu-ching duet as 'a milestone in Mandopop' & 'historical'. It may be groundbreaking for both stars in so far as their cooperation but Fei Yu-ching actually hosts an awardwinning program where he introduces oldies and invite a lot of guests to sing live. They range from popular, established, new to alternative. Quite a few of them, including those younger than Jay, would also sing duets with him & they mostly very good & entertaining. Although I dun particularly like his voice or style of singing, I admire him for his efforts to not only introduce young new artists but talented singers who are not so well-known. After I seen Tension & Lisa as his guests, I always switch over to watch segments of his program once in a while.
As for Marry me today, its not quite the flop the article described. Actually its rather popular judging by the no of mvs being posted @ youtube. I really sympathised with David & now can understand his outburst at ppl who has no knowledge of music or history to write arbitarily abt music subjectively. Yes, music is subjective but surely not when you are a critic who has to write objectively. You may not like the song or the singers but you have to understand why a song is written & sang in a certain way. Ever hear of a movie called Grease? A singer called Olivia Newton-John? Marry me today is not abt a couple getting married or a proposal song. The lyrics goes from spring to winter with Jolin representing spring to summer & David autumn to winter, 2 generations thinking abt the same subject & wanting the same thing -- love & marriage. OK lesson over ^__^ as for the 'in the house' rap, if u dun understand why its there then no point explaining cos u will nvr understand. How do you explain to those still at kindergarten level abt things 10 levels above them? *sigh*
