Alice Alice & I thought you are a hardcore DT fan ^__^ Yeah Chris, u r rite, Katrina was not written for Eason Chan. David wrote it for a real girl called Katrina whom he met in a US store where she was working as a salesgirl. He described her as a 'Chinese Charlie Theron' & was so smitten that he wrote the song & gave the demo tape to her hoping to court her. Unfortunately she already had a bf >"< He then included the demo in Black Tangerine as a bonus track. Eason loved the song so much, he put it into his 2003 album Live for Today. David arranged & produced it for him, even playing the electric guitar. Wyman Wong who did the lyrics, even wrote abt why he didn't change the song title & it remained Katrina.
Actually David's HK connection is really interesting. In fact I think the Toronto concert is a result of this connection probably through Paco & Gold Label. Also David had been sighted at the filming site of Peter Chan's Ci Ma in Shanghai. This is a big budget movie starring Jet Li, Andy Lau & Takeshi Kaneshiro. Not known if David was there just for a visit or work related. Or maybe doing some research for his own movie *__* More than likely the production of his own movie will be through his HK connection. Dun worry Kelly, David will not be quitting the music scene. Even if he concentrates on movie, he can still come up with the OST *__*
A deserved Oscar win I forgot to mention is the song written for An Inconvenient Truth by Melissa Etheridge, can listen to it @ her website. Great song & Melissa did a fabulous live rendition. She was funny when she thanked Al Gore for making her find out what word to rhythm with 'truth' in the song. Actually this song reminded me of Dear God. Both songs rang out with such conviction because they were written from the heart. Here are the lyrics:
I need to wake up
Have I been sleeping?
I’ve been so still
Afraid of crumbling
Have I been careless?
Dismissing all the distant rumblings
Take me where I am supposed to be
To comprehend the things that I can’t see
Cause I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up now
And as a child
I danced like it was 1999
My dreams were wild
The promise of this new world
Would be mine
Now I am throwing off the carelessness of youth
To listen to an inconvenient truth
That I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up now
I am not an island
I am not alone
I am my intentions
Trapped here in this flesh and bone
And I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up now
I want to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Oh, Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up now

Zhaodi, I do know the origin of this song, I was thinking if the song now belongs to Eason, it would not be a wise thing to do. He had stopped singing Melody for a reason too!
Hi Alice, oic but think should be ok as he did not have a relationship with Katrina just infatuation :P Hope yr fan gathering in Toronto is going well :)
