DAVID, YOU DID IT!
The impossibly gorgeous Mr David Tao, pixs credit to an amazing photographer Gabe thanx to link info from Phii. There's more pixs of the Metro Square press conference on her site but I have to warn DT fans, its DEFINITELY not for the faint-hearted ^__^ You find it hard to breathe after viewing. So David, you certainly did it. The continuous outpour of praise from netizens is just proof that you always give your 100%, no 1000%, to every concert you staged. Your showmanship is top-rated & your live singing captivates because you hardly ever sing without passion. I hope somehow you will get to know about the crazy no of bloggers who rushed to tell the world how great you are including this beautifully written xanga piece & from msFANjiu, thank you for yr comments *__*
Toronto concert clips
Quite a few concert vids posted @ youtube & it sounded like a vry screamy concert ^__^ David sounded a bit different, less polished & theatrical but more relaxed & natural. The look, feel & sound of the concert was lot more western & David's vocals matched the casualness of a small-scale concert. Although it was not full house but the crowd certainly looked & sounded extremely enthusiastic.
Also found this lovely slideshow of concert pixs & a nice blog review *__*

Toronto concert pixs & report
Report & pixs from wonderful Torontian fan Mabel. Thanx girl YOU ROCK!
It's 1:00 in the morning but I can't wait to share info about the concert with you and all other DT fans!! Overall, it was amazing! Good sounds and lighting. But since I have also been to the Love Can 06 concert in HK, I can't help but to compare the two. This one is less elaborated...fewer costumes...no rainforest, colour theme (black, red, white..), but David really did a good job. I could tell that he had a sorta coarse voice, but it didn't affect much of his performance. The three new songs he sang were "Can't get you gotta my mind", "Too Beautiful", and "Marry Me Today". The overall rundown was similar to the concert in HK... but some songs were taken out here and there and new ones were added. The whole thing was about 2 hrs and 15 min. David invited 2 girls instead of 1 to go on stage to sing "Ten Ten" (a.k.a. "Everyday") with him. The sloping theatre seats setting of the ACC was not very good for standing up and dancing...otherwise it would be more fun! But for a few songs many ppl did stand up.
Also from anonymous in comments below, thank you:
i just got back from it..n it waz AMAZING....i screamed n sang to every song...so my throat kinda hurts now...n i think i annoyed the person next to mee but all for the enjoyment!..the finale waz awesome...everyone stood up n sang jiu shi ai ni (love can)..overall...amazing concert...n hoping there will be another again soon.

I agreed with you Zoe, the china version of Love Can HK concert sucks majorly but unfortunately the TW version is costly considering dun even have ktv function. Not that I care but lotsa ppl like to singalong. But if u can afford it, do get it cos its really is a whole lot different from Soul Power. I wish there is also a soundtrack cd cos I really love his style of arrangement for some of the songs. Actually I have been listening to Soul Power cd repeatedly so it will be great if I can follow it up with Love Can.
When I was browsing Yesasia to look for Love Can dvd, found these other china version dvds. This one is called David Tao Dia, Flash And Macromedia Flash Concert (China Version) with his Soul Power concert soundtrack.
This one is David Tao Jiu Shi Ai Ni Yin Le Jing Qi Zhi Lu Yan Chang Hui Karaoke (China Version) with Love Can concert soundtrack. I like to get the first one as I like the cover & it sounds interesting - Macromedia Flash concert? Anyway only 3 more days to concert & 2 days to autograph session. Hope u guys who are attending can come back here to tell us abt it *__*

More info from the ever helpful Jia:
Sorry for the slow trickle of info, but I thot this might shed some light on the "special tickets" part of the Metro Square event. I talked to yet another person who is a regular at these Taipan auto sessions. He says that no special tickets are required per se, but Taipan usually has priority passes (guaranteed autograph type thing) for their employees (or their friends and family). They also sometimes give them out to people who buy their concert tickets (VIP ones i think) through Taipan.
So he said, suppose DT's autograph quota is 200 signiatures, said it's a good bet that 100 or so of them will already be Taipan ones.
Of course, we're not certain if any of this is really true or if it applies to the DT event. So read this info with caution.
But... what I think we can be confident of is that nothing is required (except maybe a copy of ur cd =] ) to get to meet DT n get an autograph, and going early is a good idea. Good luck everyone!
Thank you so much for taking time to find out all this, Jia, extremely grateful. Also that's what this blog is for -- all abt David ^__^ BTW David is now on the homepage of ACC *screaaaaaaaaaaam* heheheheheh vry fangirlish I know but can't help being so proud to see him there along with other international stars. I know he dun have any kinda ambition of going international but his fans really do exist in many parts of the world.
Beautiful is in IFPI HK top ten best selling mandarin albums for 2006. So far not bad results for this album that did not quite pleased many of his fans & critics. Got into some best albums lists, a few nominations & a topcharting single. Even when David Tao is considered not at his best, he still delivers *__* which should pleased his EMI bosses. Mentioned EMI cos of this stupid, silly, evil news item where the parparazzi tailed him when he was in Shanghai last weekend. He apparently had a meeting with EMI in a wellknown nightclub. They even knew what he had for dinner & how many songs he sang in ktv. Anyway they tailed him again when he left around 4am & insinuated that he had female company. Now they did not actually see him with a girl or had any pixs as proof. Basically its all just slander as usual *sigh* But just for interest is the meeting with EMI. Wonder if regarding his contract as it will end after his 6th studio album which he still intend to release this yr. Anyway hope all goes well for him & his rehearsal for his upcoming concert which is only a few days away *breathe in breath out* ^__^

Thank you thank you thank you Jia *hugz* for the following:
Hey all,
Details on the Metro Square event have been kinda sketchy. I'm not clear on exactly what is going on. Most advertisements and such only state the date and time, so I don't think there is any special requirement.
A friend who has been to such Taipan events before has said that in the past, some events were pretty packed. As a result, they issued wristbands to the people who got there earliest. But he also said he has never had a problem getting an autograph. But I guess what we fans can take from this is that it doesn't hurt to get there early. The response for this event seems to be really good, so if you show up at 5pm you might be greeted by a large crowd. Good luck everyone! And maybe i'll see some of you there! =]
So everybody can rest assured they should be able to meet David & get his autograph. Latest Update: Just found Metro Square webby with bit more info but not much more on DT press con & auto on 3/28. Also concert tickets giveaway!!!!!! They also linked the promo vid I uploaded @ youtube *__*
Just watched the TW version of Love Can dvd which I got as a gift while I was sick. Wow it was sooooooooooooooo good. 1000% better than the China version which was so chopped up. It was extremely well edited & the soundtrack is excellent. Scanned some pixs from the little booklet that came with it. If u still wondering whether to get it cos u already have Soul Power, I will say DEFINITELY cos its really essential companion piece for DT fans, many of whom will probably be able to see themselves ^__^
After the helicopter crashing intro, David started off with Rain as if to bring back memories of the high point during Soul Power when he got the audience to sing along but after that its a totally different concert even though he sang many of the same songs. All the arrangements were different & he infused them with a slighty broadway, jazzy/bluesy feel which was in keeping with the threatical concept of the concert. As had been mentioned before, the best part was his interaction with the band members so that the band is as much a focal part of the concert as David.
Unlike the slightly frenetic pace of Soul Power, I felt Love Can was more wellpaced with slow & fast songs blending into each other effortlessly. Really cannot chose which part of the concert I like more, it was all so enjoyable: the saucy interchange with Kewei who looked beautiful during Let's fall in love, the french part with Lisa, the rock session, the unplugged session, singing Close to you with female fan. It was just brilliant. Not sure if he will bring the same setup to Toronto but hope so cos there was such great chemistry onstage. So hope that Kewei, Lisa, Jamie, Andrew, Goh Kheng Long, Andy, Lewis, David Tan, Moh Noor & the Shanghai orchestra will all show up in Toronto.

Oh dear think I am confusing everyone abt the Metro Square event. I have no idea what will be going on there but like Alice said, if you turn up for the event for sure you will be able to see David & get his autograph. If you have concert ticket, it will not hurt to bring it along. Just turn up @ Metro Square on 3/28 if you planning on going. DO NOT let anything stop you as it is such a great opportunity to meet David. Also to meet other DT fans. If you are the kinda fan who moans abt friends not knowing who David is & despairs of ever meeting anyone who likes DT as much as you do ^__^ well wanna know something - WE EXIST *__*
Ate a madeleine today, dun know why cos I am not too fond of sweet pastries. I did not dunk it in tea not like Proust nor did I had any remembrance of things past but I did think of Lain. There was a scene at the end where I always get highly emotional where she met her dad for the vry last time. She had just erased herself from the memories of everybody who had contact with her, basically erasing her vry existence. Then her dad said next time they should have tea & madeleine. Madeleine being a Proustian metaphor for memories.
I thought of David writing Olia & putting that line from Bladerunner at the end. He never really explained why he did that. Some even sneered that it was gimmicky. Perhaps for him, it represented memories the way madeleine did for Proust. After all he had been a policeman before & he must have memories of that time. But it really opens my eyes to how important memories are. In fact our very existence is affected by our memories, just that we never quite realised it until like Proust, the taste, smell or sound of something triggered our mind to release the memories & we suddenly realised that the memories have always been there urging us to follow our dreams *sigh* Of cos Proust did it first & made the world see how a simple piece of cake could be so evocative. He did it by writing abt it in vry beautiful prose. I don't know if David has ever read Remembrance of Things Past, maybe he did, maybe he didn't. But he too realised the importance of memories & why we should always cherish them, only he did it in a very beautiful, evocative song. So maybe David can be regarded as the modern Proust ^__^

Anyone can help Danielle regarding her query?

hello Zhaodi! i was wondering if you (or someone else) could clarify something for me! i want to attend David's autograph signing at metro square, but i have been hearing that we need special tickets just to line up? i am going to the concert, but if I don't have special tickets i won't be able to meet David? :( thank you!
Dun know abt any special tickets but I am thinking maybe priority might be given to those holding concert tickets? Also any rules abt what to autograph I wonder. Anyway hope that everybody who attends has the opportunity to meet David.
Beautiful has been nominated for Buzz Asia's Best Mandarin Album in VMA Japan 07 along with Amei's I want happiness, Faith Yang's Faith Continuation, Mayday's Born to love & Show Luo. Quite an interesting selection, congra to all the nominees. Accordingly as in last yr GMA, media expressed surprise as apart from Show Luo, the other albums are not exactly the trendy, radio-friendly albums topping the chinese charts. Why dun they wake up & smell the coffee ^__^ Quality music will always be the choice, quality albums will always be awardworthy.

David performing @ 同一首歌 in Suzhou on 3/19. That's what I love abt this guy, straight after lending support to his mom, he flew to China to give his mainland fans a surprise ^__^ Forgot to mention that his TW fans really went all out to support his mom during her performance. They send 2 flower arrangements, standing & bouquet, with a charming fanclub card. They also met up with David to give him some gifts & secretly took some adorable pixs. David looked just sensational & his expressions when he was communicating with them were totally gorgeous. He also personally picked their bouquet when going onstage to present flowers to his mom. Unfortunately since its strictly no pixs @ CKS Center, unable to see his mom in full Beijing opera gear.
Once again thanks to Alice for yr constant updating:

Sry I have been MIA but was rather sick >"< David was doing his bit as the world's most filial son ^__^ by accompanying his mom to the CKS Center for rehearsal the whole day & even help with checking the sound equipment. He & his dad also turned up for the performance on 3/17 & David went onstage to present flowers to his mom. This special Beijing opera perfomance was among the many events to commemorate the National CKS Culture Center which turned 20 this yr. Wow David must have felt vry proud of his mom when he saw her no doubt wonderful performance onstage in the grand center. Such a talented family!
Big thank you again to Jia *muak* for instructions on how to get to Metro Square:
...I was actually coming over to post about that Press/Autograph session! As Zhaodi's pic says, Taipan has arraged for DT to do a sorta meet n' greet the day before the concert on March 28 from 5-7. It will be at Metro Square... for those of you who don't know, it's located uptown (northern fringes of Toronto actually...it's technically in Markham, Ontario). On Steeles Ave, just west of Warden Ave. Addresss is 3636 Steeles Avenue East, Markham, ON.
This looks like a good chance to get a bit closer to DT that you might otherwise get at the concert =] I'm a little concerned that since it's 2 hrs only there might not be time for him to do a whole lot... esp if a good number of people show up. A friend of a friend who works with Taipan says that in the past when other TW or HK celebs came, a managable number of ppl showed up and getting an autograph wont be a problem. Either way, we'll all be going won't we? Hahah
Also thanks to Alice for updating us on the fan gathering, looks like it coming along vry well. Not much longer to go now till the concert, feeling exciting for u guys *__*

hi zhaodi,
yup that ad is on tv quite a bit these days in Toronto hehe! It's in Mandarin or Cantonese depending on what language of TV program is being aired. looking forward to it! gotta start planning for the big day...
Thanks vry much Jia. Also there will be press conference & autograph session on 3/28 from 5-7pm @ Metro Square. Guess Metro Square must be wellknown in Toronto as no address given. Anyway Alice, maybe can go & give David invitation to the fan gathering personally ^__^

jia, we are really up and running the fan gathering, if you are interest let me know, i'll email you some more info. We also have Jessie in Toronto & Pasun from Boston helping out at the mean time.
Zhaodi, thank you for advertising for us. We have about 13 people for the event so far. We are hoping for 25 and still contacting EMI to see if we can deliver the message to David. Also called/faxed/emailed Taipan but they said they cannot ask David to come to a fan gathering, its company policy, bla bla. If David can't come to the gathering, hope people won't be too dissapointed.
No problem, Alice, glad to help ^__~ So great of u guys to organise this for David. For sure he will be vry pleased & hopefully he can attend. Apparently the LA concert has been moved from Apr to Jun but will post date only if confirmed. Actually dun know but feeling a bit uneasy abt the haste in staging so many concerts this yr. Also wondered if he managed to resolve the case of not being paid for his concerts staged last yr. Is he really able to do so many concerts, write, direct & produce a full-length movie as well as come up with a new studio album this yr? Oh well so long as he is happy & satisfied doing what he wants to do I guess *__*

Promo for Toronto concert in cantonese! Not sure if being seen on TV in HK, but much thanks to DTFC for vid link. Upload to youtube so u guys can see it. Hope its ok since some of my vids have been removed for copyright reason. The things I do for DT ^__^
So exciting, less than 3 wks to go now. Hope the concert as well as fans gathering will be great success. Dear David, even outside of Asia, you have fans who take the time & energy to organise & attend such meeting. I hope u r happy & satisfied -- the result of yr determination to stick to doing the music you love rather than what the market want. Of cos dun mean he is idol perfect & has no faults. Its funny cos my aunt was telling me abt this story he always tell abt how he stood up for his friend on board a plane. Btw think he should really update his stories as we heard them so many times now ~__^
Anyway he stood up for this friend who apparently opened the overhead locker & something almost fell on this man's head. Now this man didn't do anything, not even scold his friend, but just GLARED at him. David got all riffed up & challenged the man all based on his interpretation of the man's glare. By this time the poor man must be pretty pissed off but still he didn't do anything but David was not satisfied. When they got off the plane, David went looking for the man & challenged him again. I think he might have hit the man if his friends had not restrained him. The thing is when David is telling the story, he didn't think he was being unreasonable. He felt he had the right to pester the man all because he felt the man wasn't giving his friend proper respect all based on a glare >"<
So this is David & I admit he is rather testosterone & perhaps a bit male chauvinist. I think he offended quite a few female fans when he said he prefers cars to women. But if he is not that way, then there will be no Bastard, Do I Do I, I'm OK, Black Tangerine, Let's fall in love, I don't wanna know ... Anyway sorry abt all the rambling as no DT news & he hasn't written us a msg for such a long time. I hope he has not given up on posting online. Even though the media always like to quote him out of context but it meant such a lot to his fans *sigh*

Oh yes, Paikkuan, I have heard of Khalil Fong & listened to a few of his songs. He is undoubtedly talented but unfortunately I do not like his voice & irritated by his singing. Its the same with Leehom & JJ Lin. I feel as if they are singing the lyrics in pinyin. That's how Tension learn to sing their songs but altho their pronunciation is sometimes not quite right, at least they do sound like they are singing in Mandarin. Actually I have often wondered why David don't affect me that way with his singing cos he is not great with his Mandarin either. I can't explain it I guess. Listening to David for me is no difference to listening to Craig David or John Legend except that he is singing in Mandarin. Listening to Khalil, I get annoyed cos I can tell he is singing a Chinese song the way he would sing an english song. Of cos its just me & fans plse refrain from tagging abuse ^__^ Gotta be matured enough to accept not everybody in the world is gonna fall in love with yr idol.
Frankly I am a bit disappointed with the current crop of new chinese singer/songwriter like Khalil Fong, Tank, Zhang Xuan, Gary Cao, Justin Lo, just to name a few. They don't really have anything vry new & interesting to offer. What they done have already been done before -- the regimented r&b or jazzy or balladsy or 'chinese wind' music already done to death. Even the much hyped Zhang Xuan sounds just like another version of Cheer Chen. They don't have much personality either or know how to tell stories in their songs. I long for someone like James Morrison, Daniel Powter or James Blunt. Someone with a strong voice who can compose a simple song & sing it with conviction & a lot of heart. I am tired of pretty catchy poppy songs with poetic lyrics. I want a clear song with a msg like Melissa Etheridge's I want to wake up.
So I go & listen to Black Tangerine ^__^ Really if this album is released today, it will still be as fresh & original. David said that Tai Mei Li is his most cohesive album, then Black Tangerine must be his most diverse. I honestly dun think there is anyone in the Chinese musical industry who can write songs similar to those in Black Tangerine. The songs came from who he is, where he come from, his beliefs, his upbringing, his fears, his tears. He said Beautiful is his most personal album but I think Black Tangerine is even more personal. In Beautiful, he chose what he want to tell us abt his life journey, in Black Tangerine, he revealed more than what he wanted to tell us. That's why his fans understood perfectly when he said he no longer wanted to sing Melody. This man cannot sing without passion. Imagine what he had to go thru whenever he sing this song. Not that he still pined for Melody. He must be vry happy that she has found someone she wanted to marry. But they were together for 5 yrs -- 5 yrs of his life go thru his mind everytime he sing that song >"< So I fervently hope that he nvr have to sing it ever again. Anyway my apologies, I started off writing abt Khalil Fong & ended up writing abt DT *__*

If u r going to the Toronto concert, plse do join the fans gathering organised by Alice. Sry not much time to do updating for the next few wks. Anyway not much news but David's 1st concert in China this yr maybe in Nanjing on 7/7. If u r missing him like I do, can watch his serious side in this clip where he told the Gogoclub that he has agreed to be their producer & that he is vry serious abt it & they should prepared to work hard or something along that line. Love him when he is all stern & sifulike ^__^ Melody's 愛不在 has been released in a compilation of theme songs called In Love Again & below is the mv. Melody looks beautiful & actually a bit sry she & David were not fated to be together.

Thx Tracy re correction abt car being S2000 which already has its own website. Ellen, The Moment is the 5th track in his 5th studio album - Beautiful. Yeah I love it too & its a great car song too. It gives the feel of wind blowing thru yr hair while driving & the innocent feel of freedom. Btw did u know Jet Li keeps a blog? Not actually his fan, no love for kungfu but just wanted to see if he wrote anything abt meeting David during his recent visit onsite. He didn't of cos, just being vry fangirlish ^__^ Wanna laugh at his post where a foreign journalist asked what do all the chinese main characters always die at the end? Always wondered myself as it can get vry annoying cos find myself trying not to like the main characters too much in most chinese dramas in case they all died in the end >"<

Found this fabulous The Moment ktv vid @ youtube. Think it may only be released in China. Quite blatantly advertising for Honda Civic but David looks incredibly sexy & kissable. When he is walking towards the car, getting into it & driving, he just has this urbanite image of a man who not only loves but understands cars *__*
The only strange thing is he is singing Beautiful version of The Moment not Honda Civic. I thought they threw a hissy fit when he changed the lyrics ^__^ Oh well who cares so long as I can watch a yummylicious David for 4 mins & sometimes there are even TWO Davids my gawd ^__~ The best moment was when he is standing on the beach with wild hair *heart stop* & then looked straight into the camera & smiled his gorgeous smile *melt melt melt* Now I know why the song is called The Moment ^__^

(Pix courtesy & much thanks to DTFC) David performing in Wenzhou on 3/3. He sang 3 songs - Can't get you outta my mind, Who do you love & I love you. Not sure but I think a charity event. The stage looked really spacelike but he looked dashing as usual. This is his last activity in China & he should be heading back to LA. But he should be back in TP 3/17 to attend his mom's opera performance. Hope he has lots of rest so as to be in great form for his Toronto concert. Still no news of his other NA concerts but hope the venue will not be in a casino. One reason why he had so far not hold concerts in US was cos he did not want to hold them in a casino, but unfortunately these kinda venues are the most accessible to Chinese singers in US. Once again I admire & respect him for always adhering to his principles. He is really one in a million. Not many singers of his calibre would travel all the way to Wenzhou to perform & meet his Chinese fans, one of whom was lucky enough to take a pix with him backstage ^__^

The HK connection
Alice Alice & I thought you are a hardcore DT fan ^__^ Yeah Chris, u r rite, Katrina was not written for Eason Chan. David wrote it for a real girl called Katrina whom he met in a US store where she was working as a salesgirl. He described her as a 'Chinese Charlie Theron' & was so smitten that he wrote the song & gave the demo tape to her hoping to court her. Unfortunately she already had a bf >"< He then included the demo in Black Tangerine as a bonus track. Eason loved the song so much, he put it into his 2003 album Live for Today. David arranged & produced it for him, even playing the electric guitar. Wyman Wong who did the lyrics, even wrote abt why he didn't change the song title & it remained Katrina.
Actually David's HK connection is really interesting. In fact I think the Toronto concert is a result of this connection probably through Paco & Gold Label. Also David had been sighted at the filming site of Peter Chan's Ci Ma in Shanghai. This is a big budget movie starring Jet Li, Andy Lau & Takeshi Kaneshiro. Not known if David was there just for a visit or work related. Or maybe doing some research for his own movie *__* More than likely the production of his own movie will be through his HK connection. Dun worry Kelly, David will not be quitting the music scene. Even if he concentrates on movie, he can still come up with the OST *__*
A deserved Oscar win I forgot to mention is the song written for An Inconvenient Truth by Melissa Etheridge, can listen to it @ her website. Great song & Melissa did a fabulous live rendition. She was funny when she thanked Al Gore for making her find out what word to rhythm with 'truth' in the song. Actually this song reminded me of Dear God. Both songs rang out with such conviction because they were written from the heart. Here are the lyrics:
I need to wake up
Have I been sleeping?
I’ve been so still
Afraid of crumbling
Have I been careless?
Dismissing all the distant rumblings
Take me where I am supposed to be
To comprehend the things that I can’t see
Cause I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up now
And as a child
I danced like it was 1999
My dreams were wild
The promise of this new world
Would be mine
Now I am throwing off the carelessness of youth
To listen to an inconvenient truth
That I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up now
I am not an island
I am not alone
I am my intentions
Trapped here in this flesh and bone
And I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up now
I want to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Oh, Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep

Spain in the house
As said by Ellen Degeneres during Oscar nite ^__^ She was rambling on abt how 'international' the Oscars has become then she mentioned Penelope Cruz & Mexican in the same breath >"< A slight pause realising her mistake, then she said, "Spain in the house." I think not many ppl got that cos later she apologised & corrected herself more explicitly saying of cos everyone knows that Penelope Cruz is from Spain. That was rather nice of her, always like Ellen Degeneres & thought her hosting was excellent. Also she has the DT lingo! How cool is that *__* That wasn't the only faux pas of cos. When Departed won for adapted screenplay, Infernal Affair was annnounced as a Japanese film >"< Guess if there are no 'flying orientals' then it ain't Chinese. Still could hardly blame them since that's what most chinese directors keep throwing at them in the hope of getting a golden statue.
Anyway back to DT. Seemed he told his TW fans that there will not be any change in Toronto concert *thank god* Wonder if he will speak in english & also hope he will sing Katrina during the unplugged session. Its already March & his concert in less than a month! Will try & do a countdown soon to get everybody all hyper ^__^
