Concert memories

Wow, concert excitement still so high. Felt that David really put on his very very very best for a memorable night. Lotsa great pixs being posted so won't post many here, can find them @ DT forum & cari.com, latter has abt 3 or 4 threads abt Love Can concert. The above pix is my absolutely fav, the expression on his face says it all -- he is willingly to give 200% to his audience. Complaints abt ppl not giving it up for David in the front rows but I think if you had stood up & cheered for David, he would know. So no need for concern, don't think David would be discouraged.
Some chinese reviews here & here, both excellent & mentioned sweet Celine, the lucky fan whom David picked to come up stage. She got to hug & put her head on David's manly chest ^__^ Best of all, I love how they commented on the various musicians & backup singers even naming many of them. The lovely Kewei was specially signalled out for her youth, her looks, her dancing the tango with David, her sweet voice when singing Marry Me Today with David & especially for her talents. The reviewer said that to be picked for David's concert, you have to be multi-talented. Feel so proud of David that he is always so willing to share the stage so that his concert members all get to shine. This is what a concert should be, not just the star holding a concert but his interaction with his concert members to present the very best in music for the audience.
Another nice thing was after the concert, David immediately went to attend a special David Tao International Fan Club Party his fans from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan & China held for him. He was very happy that although he does not have an international fanclub but fans from various countries still managed to unite by themselves with very little problem. They gave him gifts & even though his staff kept trying to get him to leave to attend his official after concert party, he stayed for an hour & it was 2am before he left. Such a great guy, my absolute idol forever.
A great concert vid already up @ sinchew -- Celine also featured, that girl is getting famous *__* Much thanks & credit to xien for posting 2 great clips @ youtube. Love the one where he said, "There's one thing I realised, Malaysians can sing!" WOW such great praise, you guys must have impressed our godfather of music very much!!!!!!!!

You guys wrote some wonderful memories on shoutbox so reposted here to preserve them:

rspbery [12:35:25 PM]
The concert was awesome overall!! Personally I felt the beginning could have been better.. there wasnt enuff ooommpphh and power.. I know he could have made a stronger impact on his presence.. nevertheless it got better after every song. I went all the way out cheering for DAVID!! I had such a good good time singing along, enjoying the live music and his superb raw vocal. U know how he always sounds perfectly pitched.. as if u?re hearing a recording instead of a live performance.. sometimes I hope he could just went off-pitch to remind me that hey this is live. Crazy I know..! but u know him.. being HIM, he rarely goes off-pitch. He?s just too super to do that I guess. I love the way he changes his singing style.. and how kheng long reworks a new musical arrangements.. brings a fresh feeling. Like he did for airport in 10.30, .. I think it?s the same arrangement as the ones for the soul power concert right? Still LOVE IT!! (out of concert context: especially tian tian 2003!!) the girl who went up stage to duet with david was so cute and sporting.. jealous, but yeah she deserves it!! Loved the violinist, er-huist and flutist.. strings were amazing especially when he sang jiu se ai ni.. musicians were great. I was hoping they would blast the music slightly louder tho.. I liked the opera intro for susan shuo ..shows his versatility. I must say I cant name u the songs I loved cuz they were mostly all of it. Lolx. David looked really good in the black coat.. cutie!! Loved how the audience sang ?ai hen jian dan? together.. could hear the echoes of the stadium.. so so coooll?!!! A great concert.. looking forward to a next concert from david

The concert was waaay to short!!! So glad dave sang like all my fav songs. But then? r ther actually songs dat I dun like from him??heheh.anyway,so glad I hv a place to ?vent? my excitement!! Thx zhaodi! The songs and arrangements las nite sounded veri similar to soul power to me, and that?s simply wonderful cos not being ther at his soul power concert and later watchin d vcd simply shreds you up inside!!! Ther I was las nite...graced wit the presence of david and his absolutely magnificent band? in the flesh?it was almost unbelievable. Wished I were closer but then I noticed the crowd at the more exp seats weren?t veri lively. COME ON PPL!!!seriously, can we (you ppl reading dis and myself) like go together as a group the nex time round??its jus rotten that I get to sit around ppl who r content to sit quietly and watch. Slap those hands together and work those vocal chords la!! I was already a bit sad after ?the giving tree? clips(I?m such a sucker for this kinda stories) and then dave proceeded to sing dear god. I was almost crying but then I was scared that I?ll scare my fren and get weird looks from ppl around me. It took quite a bit go effort to push the tears back in . n he oso sang hu die!!! I nvr expected him to sing tht so wen he did?.i had tears all welled up. My Chinese isn?t dat good so I dun really noe exactly wat the songs says but that song always get me in the mood for a good crying?and I?v done that b4. haha. I NEED ANOTHER DAVID CONCERT!

KL LOVE CAN CONCERT

Forgot I can change the date so can post last countdown ^__^ Anyway just wanna update on the 'copying allegations', Sina.com has this on the website. They consulted a music expert in Shanghai who said although there are similiarities, there is no 'copying' as all the songs did not have the required eight bars. So David is cleared completely of any kind of copying throughout his music career as the songs are all taken from his previous albums & works not recent ones. Basically if you have the time to compare songs of the same genre bar by bar, you are bound to find some similiarities. But I am glad Sina did the honorable cos their various articles accusing David of being a 'copycat' purely from a forum discussion by kiddies not music experts is just way out of line and totally unprofessional. That was why I was angry & worried it may affect David's reputation. So glad this dark cloud is cleared just in time for tonight concert. Now DT fans can get worshippingly HIGH in front of one of Asia's few indisputedly best singer/songwriters *__*

1 day to KL concert

Oh my he looks like a rockstar ^__^ Dear David arriving in KL. Probably be offline for a while so cannot post the last countdown but never mind. Hope he will have a great time with his Msia fans & put a great big smile on his face. Those going, plse have a good time. David could be a bit affected by the recent bad press. I mean he said he is ok but nobody wants to be wrongly & cruelly accused of being a playboy & copycat. So remember to give him lots & lots of tender, loving care.

20061026

2 days to KL concert

Love it when he looks so earnest when he is singing, vry yummy ^__^ 2 MORE DAYS!!! Hope David, already in KL, is in good spirits despite all the negative news *sigh* Its funny cos someone mentioned to me that Red Hot Chili Peppers had been accused of plagiarism so out of curiosity I surf around & found a vry long forum thread discussing this, as well claim that the Tom Petty's song that RHCP has been accused of copying was also copied from some other song. Probably somewhere further along the line, somebody will say that song was copied from another song. Do people have so much time on their hand to compare songs & accused songwriters copying? What is the point? As the music experts say in the Rolling Stone article:
''The opening parts of both songs have very similar grooves, they use pretty much the same chord progressions and the ways the melodies are patterned are similar. And it pretty much stops there,'' says Travis Jackson, an associate professor who specializes in recording technology. ''Chord progressions are really hard to claim as a basis [for a lawsuit]. That's a pretty standard groove. You would have to do a lot more to say there's outright copying.''
At least Rolling Stone bothered to get expert opinions on whether or not RHCP plagiarised. Sina.com have no such qualms abt putting a story online abt a petty forum discussion that David 'copied' songs & put the headline as 'copycat king'. If this was in US, David could have sued them for outright slander & taken them to the cleaners. OK, bearing in mind that at least eight continuous bars of music must be substantially similar before claims of plagiarism can even be entertained, here are the songs they accused David of 'copying'
1) Leave & BSB's If I don't have you. The above argument applies. Both songs has similar chord progressions which is found in most r&b songs. Go listen to Boyz 2 Men's End of the Road & you will also find the similarity.
2) Melody & Mariah Carey's After Tonight - ARE YOU TONE DEAF?
3) Shanghaied & Craig David's Fill Me In - maybe if you dissect both songs thoroughly, may find a few continuous bars of similarity. So what? They are both of similar musical genre - 2-step.
4) Season of Loneliness & not 1 but 2 Japanese anime songs - ARE YOU TONE DEAF?
5) Rain & some obscure Japanese band - ARE YOU TONE DEAF?
6) You are so Beautiful & Justin Timberlake's Still On My Brain - maybe if you dissect both songs thoroughly, may find a few continuous bars of similiarity but certainly not eight.
So based on the above, I exonerate David completely from the charge of plagiarism *__* Anyway if anyone ever accused David of 'copying' in front of you, feel free to direct them to this post.

3 days to KL concert

David should be flying to KL today. Wish him success in his last concert of the year. I believe at the moment there are still no plans for concerts in the US. Nice pixs from article in Chinapress, btw vry nice Msia forum with a long thread discussing Love Can concert. David felt saddened by the Asian music market and it has affected him a lot. Sometimes he wonders whether anyone is using their ears to listen, do they care any more? Now that he still have the capability, the creativity & market value, he hopes to switch from music to movies. That's the reason he wanna quickly realise his dream, of cos it will not be only 1 movie, perhaps he will spend the next half of his life filming!
If people still wanna listen to his music, if he still have market value, he will still do music. Actually a lot of people, esp his fans, don't realise. Even though they say to him, "I will support you, don't retire from music" but the reality is when 80% of the music is from illegal downloads & piracy, a singer cannot really survive. He will not act in his own movie as he don't consider this important. The actors don't have to be big stars. Just like his albums & concerts, he will not especially seek out people to work with, just so long as they are suitable.
10 years ago, David said the most important in his life is music, now his answer is his dream. He said that the value of an artist should not only depend on current achievements but there should be continuing discoveries & development in order to survive in today's market. Like Madonna who can maintain her position is because she is always changing but without subcumbing to trends so making her unique. Although the situation is different in Asia, but still David is confident. Confidence+luck+time are all important, next year he will go forward with this aim.
David knows that movies are facing the same problems as music, and he does have concerns. If his first movie is not successful and the music industry is still not vibrant, will he lost his movie dream? Will he has another dream? Or maybe he will have an opportunity in US? David doesn't know. But he is happy he has own dreams to pursue. To him, dreams are the most important. He can always earn money, his health can be good or bad but dreams are important for the soul. He sounds so realistic & down-to-earth. Although I sincerely hope he will not spend the rest of his life making movies, but if that is what makes him happy then I will definitely support his decision.

4 days to KL concert

He looks soooooooooo dreamy in this pose ^__^ More pixs from Sin Chew interview credit to Taofusion - Msia Fanclub. Really sweet interview where David was asked abt his feeling on gossipy news, himself, his music & his future.
He always has this focus when playing the piano, vry charming. Just 4 more days to KL Love Can concert *__* last stop this yr. Wonder if he will fly in his helicopter. He should be flying here pretty soon I suspect to rehearse. I think he finished his uni tour yesterday.
For those in Sin unable to attend the concert & with cable tv, David will be featured on 53 TVBJ:
Music On Fire 2006 :
(Ep 38)
In today's programme, David Tao will perform a song in a musical instrument shop. Apart from his impromptu performance, you can also expect David to talk about topics like travelling, good food and his relationship with the media. Sat 10/28 9pm, Sun 10/29 2am, 8am & 2.30pm.

Just saw this in comments, thanks phiii --
I last saw a copy of the Ultrasound Documentary DVD in HMV Tshim Sha Tsui in Hongkong in April 06. I bought my copy there too. Hope this helps. :) best, phiii
Hope our HK friends can help!

5 days to KL concert

Wonder why he always look so tanned but I like it, quite gorgeous I think ^__^ Apparently the Zhe character cannot be typed on a cellphone & David hopes that Walkman can rectify this. He is just too special to have such a special name. Fan @ DFTC posted vid of David singing Walk On during Walkman promo & its absolutely fabulous. His voice just gets better & better. Hope he will sing it during KL concert cos if he sounds so good with only a backing track, it will be a blast with a live band. I totally love how he kinda beatbox in the accompaniment. Walkman is so fortunate to have this song. Anyway here's the clip, credit to DTFC.

Also a few more vids available at the right side of DT fans meeting in China. Just so great that always some kind soul to post up recent stuff of David.
Abt Ultrasound - 11 Labor Room documentary, I believe only dvd was released in TW & the rest vcd. Really hard to find now which is a pity as its really a must for DT fans. Any doubts abt him, just watch the docu & instantly you are a believer once again. His beliefs, his philosophies, his motives for making music always remain the same. Anyway upload 2 clips for those who do not have the docu. 1st is promo where he & some fans watch it on a big screen in TW with lots of Lucky, David's dog *__* 2nd is compilation opening with David playing word association game, vry cute!

20061022

6 days to KL concert

Another post so soon *__* cos our Dave is too adorable. They asked him during Walkman promo if he confessed lurve for Jolin by kissing her *roll eyes* & he replied he only kissed her on the cheek for encouragement.
He pointed to his cheek *swoon* so adorable. Anyway news here & lots more adorable pixs here.
His fans enacted the 'No 89 lipbalm incident' ^__^ during Soul Power concert & David mischeviously said he also kissed the girls seated in No 89 where the lipbalm was hidden. They asked if he would also kissed guys & he said luckily they were all girls.

7 days to KL concert

Hahaha you guys having fun in the comments below. Just updating actually Rain did not had a real helicopter on stage, it was part of the backdrop but it sure looked real. Also his new winged image is an angel not Icarus, I was the one who did the subliminal leap to the tragic Greek boy who flew too close to the sun ^__^
Anyway its to do with the theme of his new album & upcoming concerts where after the raging fire of wars, Rain will rain himself upon us poor sufferers & bring forth peace, love, hope, etc ... whatever float yr boat. Kinda similar to David's rainforest theme except a whole lot more epic & messiahlike. Not much news on David which is good. Really hope nobody is trying to malign him again >"< Apparently he had a Walkman promo in Quangzhou this weekend so maybe some new pixs soon. Meanwhile some short clips of him in the Melaka showcase.

Also nice pixs in this blog which 1 reposted here, hope he won't mind but he did include pix file *__* Do read the hilarious comments. Actually think 250 ppl not bad for a small town & these are all fans judging from the screaming in the clips, not curious onlookers. There was a comment @ TW Yahoo grp that Beautiful went up the sales chart again & they think it cos of the uni tour where many students bought his album for autograph. My respect for him come rushing back. He really encapsulates the real artist who relies on himself to sell his album. He also did not make that many mvs this time & dun think he will come up with a Beautiful vcd. Altho I do enjoy the 5 mvs vry much, Beautiful is really an album that tell its own story through the music.
Seemed that Jimmy of Tension will also be writing a script, filming & directing a movie called The Job nxt yr. He will be asking Vanness of F4, Stanley Huang & Leehom to star while his dad Samo Hung will guest star. It will be action movie & they will need to undergo training. David was concerned abt the funding of the movie & advised Jimmy to be careful not to be cheated.
Look like the trend for singers to turn to acting or directing is gathering momentum *sigh* Oh some kind soul posted this TQ:
Anonymous said ... Ultrasound is available in Subang Parade. A music store nect to the Caring pharmacy. I saw it when I bought the "BEAUTIFUL" album. Good luck! 10/21/2006 10:19 PM
I guess this is in Msia but I do hope he meant Ultrasound documentary vcd not Ultrasound cd. Big difference ^__^

20061018

10 days to KL concert

Okaaaaaaay happened to catch a news clip of Rain's recent concert & there was a helicopter on stage. So I went looking & found this @ youtube. Rather similiar to David's opening concert clip dun you think. Know what's gonna happen as usual, Rain fans gonna accuse David of 'copying' him. Oh well, that's life when you are one of the most innovative trendsetters in Asia.
Rain's concert msg is apparently spreading 'lurve & peace', I wonder where he got that from? He is spreading his winds like Icarus but avoiding the sun *roll eyes* I wish Rain the best of luck but I lost all interest in him when he started to grope his crotch a few times during the concert. I am pretty liberal but majority of his fans are little Asian girlies, not to mention isn't that pretty old hat by now. Also his military gear is really offputting considering what's happening in North Korea. So Rain my fine-feathered friend, just don't fly too close to the sun ^___~
Anyway back to the real concert news, 10 more days to KL Love Can concert where its all abt the music, music, music, music, music, MUSIC & David's sterling vocals that never fail to impress.

20061017

Astro interview

Thanks so much tangerina for yr comment. Its always so interesting to read others' thoughts on David's songs cos make me realised how much stuff he put into his music so you can really relate to his songs on so many levels. Now everytime I listen to Walk On, I can imagine him saying dun worry abt the bad press & criticism, just listen to yr heart ^__^
thanks alot for the translation on Walk On!:)...i've always love that song becos of its meaningful lyric. This song is like a good rebuttal to those criticism out there, it kinda makes me feel that DT actually wrote this song with a foresight of knowing the kind of harsh criticisms he might be subjected to with this album. But still, he reminds us all music lover out there including his fans not to blindly follow the trend but to listen with our hearts and decide for ourselves the kind of music we want to hear. 10/16/2006 4:10 PM
A lot of ppl like this song too. Msia fan has posted his interview @ Astro & the guy interviewing at once said he liked Walk on. Really lovely interview altho brief. David looked sooooooooooo handsome & vry relaxed. He really has a killer smile *__*

As for Ultrasound docu, surprised that so many DT fans nvr bought this when it first came out. David himself mentioned it did not sell vry well so unless there is a huge demand, dun think they will come out with a new release. So if anyone spot one anywhere, plse let us know asap.

20061016

Walk On

While listening to Beautiful, I suddenly realised that Walk On tells us to follow our instinct, set the trend & not be influenced by others. So in a way its a bit like Kenji's General Command but more wideranging. The music almost like a marching band, makes me wanna get up & run thru the park ^__^ David plays the piano, horn & keyboard but I wonder what kinda horn. Also how many instruments can he actually play? He always said he is not that expert at instruments but he must be pretty adept to be able to play for a recording. His musicality is just so all encompassing. Anyway translated Walk On so those who dun understand mandarin can get to know what this song is all abt.
Walk On
Since we all have a pair of legs
Do not hesitate to start striding
Choose anywhere you want to go
Without using anyone's map
I know you wanna
Run in the direction ahead
No need to explain that you set the trend
You know you wanna
Seek for the future
No one can stop you jumping
And letting go of your imagination
Follow your feelings, don't hold back
Just walk on (walk on)
This is the right kind of feeling
If you perserve, you will be convinced
Listen, listen to your music
Follow the melody and go after it
This is the right kind of feeling
The most sincere happiness
Too many choices can be frustrating
So use your instinct to lead you on
Everywhere in the world there are countdowns
So don't let your senses be distorted
I know you wanna
Run in the direction ahead
No need to explain that you set the trend
You know you wanna
Seek for the future
No one can stop you jumping
And letting go of your imagination
Follow your feelings, don't hold back
Just walk on (walk on)
This is the right kind of feeling
If you perserve, you will be convinced
Listen, listen to your music
Follow the melody and go after it
This is the right kind of feeling
The most sincere happiness
Music by David Tao & Goh Kheng Long, lyrics by David K & David Tao, sang by David Tao in Beautiful
TW fan has posted 2 more clips of David performing at Tainan uni. Full clips this time, over 4 mins. The first he sang Susan Said & it was cute when he got a few girls to come up on stage. Nxt he sang I Love You & he must have been really high cos he kept forgetting lyrics. But even the amateur recording cannot obscure his excellent vocals, pure as a bell & he didn't really let go enough cos he would have shattered the rafters in that confined area *__*

Real DT

Glad u guys like the new look. Must regroup & give new support to David as he is facing negative image generated by the recent press, or should I say continuous, malicious slander >"< He seems to be a soft target for the tabloid who enjoys tailing him & misrrepresenting his views. He is certainly not a 'fake' or a 'liar'. His real persona & the persona found in his albums are exactly the same. He never wears a mask in public & pretends to be something he is not, what you see is what you get. Listening to Beautiful, you get the story of an ordinary man who has loved, lost, loved again, cheated & got cheated, want to get married but afraid of commitment and terrified of growing old. Has David ever presented himself any other way? You may dislike his so-called 'arrogance' but you cannot accuse him of being fake.
Still most Asian fans seem to want their idols to be perfect, modest, faithful, model citizens. Hey, I admit that I myself want David to be dignified, cool, heroic & beyond reproach. So I was disappointed when he turned out to have feet of clay & refused to admit whether or not he has a girlfriend. But I also have to admit David has never promised to be this perfect idol, all he ever wanted is that we listen to his music & try to understand him more. Like his idols John Lennon & Jimi Hendrix who never pretend to be something they were not, who put all their passion & emotion into their music. How are we gonna be moved by their songs if they were not what they portrayed themselves?
Great singers, songwriters & musicians have always been those who dared to confront the world. Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf, Madonna, so many more. These people dared to live, dared to love & dared to tell the world abt it. Without them, the world will be a lot less interesting. If I have to choose between an idol David who conforms to being the perfect model for his fans or a real David who let us see his weakness then I chose the latter. I much rather he continue to move us with his music then be considered as someone who is infallible & above reproach.
If ppl want to believe the worst of him, not much we can do abt it. Like there are many who love to accuse him of 'copying song' esp I Love you which can get really ridiculous since it has been said to be 'copied' from so many songs. How can one song be copied from so many diff songs? Do they all sound the same? The latest is Klymaxx - I miss you. Nvr heard of this group but can listen to I miss you @ youtube. Must say its a vry nice song but unless you are TONE DEAF, its hard to understand how anyone can accuse David of copying from this song. Just wanna say I went & listen to all the songs they accused David of 'copying' & NONE of them are valid. They are all just as ridiculous as Klymaxx's I miss you.
Anyway some vids to enjoy, the first courtesy of TW Yahoo grp is news clip of his mini-concert @ Taipei Univ.

Then a vry brief clip of his concert at Tainan univ

New look

Welcome to the new look! Hope you like it, esp the archives with titles of each post making it much easier to track back. Decided to go with a newsy layout so pixs posted will only be thumbnails. Should be able to change colors & fonts soon to make it even cleaner.
David is still on his uni tour & hopefully there will be more reports & pixs from his TW fans. Found this great page full of his recent pixs. Also 3 clips of his Beautiful press conference in Beijing, just click on the links below the player.
He looked so charming in the pixs. I believe in him absolutely despite the recent bad press. I think he really tried to make the best of the situation but unfortunately its just got worse & worse.
As he said himself, he was stupid in the past to try & be honest & sincere in portraying his own feelings. Anyway I decided to put it all behind & from now on this blog will not feature any kind of news on his relationship unless there is really the need.

20061012

DT, Andrew & Josh

David held a successful show @ Taipei Municipal Uni. He said that for every album release, he would have uni tour as he considered it necessary, natural & something he enjoy doing. More pixs here where can see he got molested on stage again *__* Something diff this time is he had Andrew Chu & Josh Chen to perform with him, this turning to be the highlight as David made them worked hard in rehearsal. DT forum has already posted the schedule for their 5 uni tour.
David said like their sifu ^__^ they often forget lyrics & must be in their DNA. Josh & Andrew sang Forever as well as many of their own compositions including the ones they wrote for Tension like Arigato & Having my baby. TW Yahoo Grp fan already upload 3 vids @ youtube, clip on 'More from this user' to see the other 2.

Andrew & Josh will be releasing their album soon but not sure if together or individually. But sad sad sad sad sad news :( David said that Tension has no plans to release album yet. I guess they must have their reason but I really hope its not the end of Tension. I wish David is more clear abt future plans for them. Anyway some fan have posted heaps of their live clips during past TW promos. Can't bear to watch any of them yet *tear*
Answering some shoutbox posts, definitely want David to get married soon but just dun wanna see news abt his relationship problems. Such news are usually regarded as cheap quick way to get more coverage for the celebrity & ppl get sick & tired of it easily for instance Tom Cruise. It would be better if David is like Eason Chan who became more popular & respected after marriage & becoming a father.
General's command can be regarded as subtle satire I guess on the current trend of hiphop East/West mix of which Jay is the most wellknown. Its really rather sophisticated which of cos will go over the head of most chinese 'music critics' who accused Kenji of 'copying'. At one part Kenji emulated the high-pitched operatic singing which became popular after David's Susan Said but of cos he is not accused of 'copying' David cos its obvious his targets do not include David who is regarded as a trendsetter. I love the part in the mv where Kenji is pitched against Western opponents in basketball but some of them are carrying hockey sticks. I thought its quite hilarious. I dun know, just me I guess *shrug*

20061011

Msia promo clips

A few more Msia promo vids courtesy of bloodbubble *hugz* David sang Moon over whose heart while fanclub mbrs carry lighted lanterns behind him, vry sweet. Then a bit of Wan Bu Liao, nvr get tired of listening to him sing this song live. U just realised how much the song is vocal driven.
DTFC has posted that new version of Tai Mei Li already released in China. It now has the previously banned track, I don't wanna know(slightly changed lyrics I would think), & bonus track of original The Moment written for Honda Civic. Guess must have stepped on some pretty big toes there by rewriting the lyrics :P Still its a great song & I love both versions.

Just wanna recommend the recent single from Kenji Wu, General's Command. Kenji was the surprise nominee in Best mandarin male singer in this year GMA. He really is a good singer/songwriter. I think his most remembered song was the self-titled track where he imitated a lot of singers. He is fav among girlies for his charming good looks.
General's Command is probably the freshest I heard of East/West combo. Nothing really new & not sure if he did the arrangement himself but its just so slick & creative. Altho of cos the promo claimed he invented a new style *roll eyes* The intro is rather clever to go with the meaning of the song where he described ppl following trends like hiphop as following a general's command.
Although he recycled the tune from a previous song, Chou Xing Xing, he still managed to add something extra to it plus mixing in some great chinese elements. Only thing is like with most chinese songs today, it sounds better with an mv which is a bit controversial. There seemed to be shades of Jay Chou & Wang Lee Hom in it as well as in the lyrics which Kenji wrote himself.
Anyway those who r fed up with David ^__^ & want more creativity in their music might wanna try Kenji. I feel that of all the young & upcoming Chinese singer/composers, he is the most intellectual & able to bring more to his music. He needs to cut down on the gimmicks at some point though. Ppl will just get tired of it as he is just following trends -- something his new song is extolling us not to do.

DT on the road

Not much news abt David's showcase in Ipoh which should be his last stop in his Beautiful promo I would think. You know I love that he always try to promote on the road for his new album. Vry few big stars do that, they normally just go to the major cities. Reminds me of the rock bands in US who do roadshow to take it to their fans. That's what music is all abt for real. In these days of music going online, it has become more than ever a commodity. Ringtones are sad cases of how commercialised music has become. I like to applaud David's attempt to bring it back to live. I am thinking that maybe he is not vry happy abt how music is evolving online & he rather his music be heard live. He even broke the taboo of performing live 3 weeks before his concert. When awards are actually given out for most downloaded song, most internet searches, most online votes, its refreshing to have a singer/composer who do not buy into such popularity by remote.
A positive post for once ^__^ Came abt when I saw a news snippet where they highlighted the things stars had to do for promotion. 1st they show Jay promoting latest mv with Hebe, Jolin watching a GUY doing her Dancing Diva & David strumming the guitar for a contestant for singing contest. Of the 3, only David was doing something related to his musical talents.
Jay was boxbeating & trying to dance like Usher, both of which he sucks majorly sry to say. I found the Asian singers who can really beatbox well are John of Tension & Se7en. Anyway he is promoting the hyped mv he did with Hebe, not the song he wrote but the mv he directed. Jolin works vry hard for her dancing probably more so than her singing & that is how she is promoted. Even her album is called the Dancing not Singing Diva. Btw Marry me today is included in her latest compilation album proving that this song is only unpopular with so-called music critics who nvr really understood what this song is all abt.
David is no Eric Clapton I have to admit, he uses the guitar more for composing than performing. But in the clip, you can really see his musician side, he treats the guitar as a means of presenting the song & vocals. Again I realised why he is my idol. His respect for music & his unwillingess to use it to promote himself. I know its kinda contradictory since he is promoting his music, but he is using it as a medium to convey the things he want to convey. That is why I love Beautiful where he held back his creativeness & instead let the songs & his voice take us on a musical journey ...
David takes it on the road again the next few weeks. He will be performing in universities in Taipei tomorrow & Kaoshiong on 10/15. Then after KL Love Can Concert on 10/28, he will be one of the many performers in Wild Day Out, a 10-hr concert marathon in HK.

Msia promo - Melaka

David guested in singing contest in Melaka's Low Yat Plaza for 8TV anniversary but not much news abt it except above pix. The showcase @ A Famosa Cowboy Town was vry successful altho it was delayed for an hr. David sang Wang Bu Liao & Tai Mei Li. His fans kept yelling 'Tao Zhe you are the best' & 'Tao zhe I love you' so David praised them as more passionate than fans in KL *KL fans have to do better nxt time heehee*
Ooookaaay the following fresh off the Msia press has another twist to the Tao/Jo neverending boring 'who gives a damn' saga. Believe whatever but dearest David, plse dun wait till u leave the world to have no regrets, how abt not having regrets NOW ^__^
The rest of the news is quite interesting esp the KL concert.
No time for love
-by Chow Ee-Tan -
ALTHOUGH he has a song dedicated to marriage in his new album, Beautiful, David Tao does not see himself settling down any time soon.
“I think I’m too ambitious,” said the 37-year-old Taiwanese singer-songwriter in Kuala Lumpur. “I have no extra time to date and romance.”
Tao, who has been in the news lately, recently broke off with his girlfriend Joanna — a relationship he tried to keep hush.
But when asked whether he has a phobia to commitment, he said he has too many things he wants to do with his career.
“It’s not about earning more money, but I hope that when I leave this world, I will have no regrets,” said the self-declared idealist.
Tao, whose shorter haircut makes him look younger, will be staging the last stop of David Tao Love Can World Tour 2006 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Oct 28.
He said it will be a most complete concert’ compared to his earlier stops as he will be singing songs from all his previous albums as well as from the latest Beautiful, released two months ago.
One of the highlights in Beautiful is the saccharine-sweet Marry Me Today, a duet with Jolin Tsai. It was the first duet that Tao had ever recorded!
“For me, there must be ‘a purpose when a song is sung together. In fact, when it was written, I thought I could sing it myself but realised it would be better to do a duet, especially since it is about marriage.”
Tao said he would be slowing down in his music career next year to write and direct movies.
Tao is going to realise his dream of being a film director next year, as he gradually makes the transition from music to film.
“I will be a scriptwriter and director. I am very serious about it as it has been my dream since young,” he said.
But he said it is still too early to say the type of movie he will be making as that depends on the budget.
So, while Tao wants to live life to the fullest with no regrets, is he compromising on relationships and marriage?
“Family life is important too,” he said. “I still hope one day, at the right time, I will be married and have children.”

Msia Beautiful Promo - KL

I am done with sulking ^__^ so back with recent pixs of David in Msia. The necklet looks kinda girly but still he looks glowing, in the pink of health heehee his jacket is actually powder pink *shudder* Some articles here & here, pixs rather small but vry nice.
The mc for his 10/6 autograph session told David that his Msia fanclub has prepared gift for him. David thought it was mooncake & said that he has eaten mooncakes the whole day. The mc said no but knowing that David likes chicken, they have prepared a chicken lantern for him. David at once explained that its not that he likes chicken but his chinese zodiac is chicken. Everybody laughed as 'chicken' is a euphemism for 'prostitute' in chinese. During the press conf in the afternoon, David actually asked for a chicken lantern to take pixs but there wasn't one. But he received a model helicopter which is pretty cool I thought. He can put his DT doll in front of it & it will look actually like Love Can concert :P (Info & pix credit starlady @ SGFC)
His Piccolo Galleries showcase was staged along the road & a lot of fans were risking their lives by standing on the road where the cars were whisking by. After singing Wang Bu Liao, David felt apologetic and said he hasn't sang in the middle of the road for a while but since it wasn't a hot day so it was great for meeting his fans. Normally singers who are staging concert will not sing publicly 3 weeks before but David broke this taboo *__* A European tourist who after listening to David sing, bought Tai Mei Li album & even queued for his signature. David was surprised on seeing him & wished him Happy Moon Festival. David said KL is his last stop for Love Can concert not his last concert so not sure if this means that he is still considering staging concerts in North America. These concerts will not be like Love Can as they will be much smaller in scale. He also said that he will be adding new songs & he will going all out as it is the last stop. He asked his fans to be high from start to finish. His fans from HK, Taiwan & I guess Japan will be there to support him too.
Managed to catch the AIFM radio interview which was pretty good. His seductive voice melts my hardening heart & makes me trust in him again ^__^ The DJ called Ching Ching I think *trust me it sounds better in chinese* asked some interesting questions. Can't remember all of it as I was doing some fairly important stuff while listening. She asked if a singer will release an album like Beautiful which is a reflection on one's life only once. But David replied not really, he felt it could be once or more. She felt that after listening to Beautiful from start to finish she realised there was a lot of meaning in the album and its telling a complete story. David said that when he let some of the mv directors listen to the album the first time, they also felt that it was telling a story from first love to what happened before marriage & after. Strangely enough I thought I was the only one who thought the album is like telling a whole story.
The first song they talked abt is Beautiful & Ching2 said that its like a continuation of I love you & David kinda agreed. She played Wang Bu Liao & asked David abt the change in style in covering old songs. David said that actually he likes hiphop & rap very much. He was doing hiphop much earlier for artists like LA Boyz now Machi before it became so popular in chinese entertainment. When he start releasing his own albums, he stopped doing hiphop as he was a bit tired of it. But now he decided to use it to cover an old song. David said that when he redo old songs, he will tried to change almost everything from lyrics to the beat. Ching2 said that Marry me today really lights up the album. She also loved the rap part saying it gives a fun feeling *At last someone who understands the rap inclusion* David then told a funny story abt this song. He said he has a female friend in US with a 2 yr old daughter who always cry on seeing him. But after listening to the song, the little girl now thinks David is her 'prince on a white horse' & wanna marry our Dave! David said that when he wrote the song, he hopes that people of all ages can enjoy it & so he felt vry happy that even a 2 yr old likes it.
Ching2 said that listening to Forever she can imagine a man standing in the dark under a spotlight singing. David said that the man is Tao Zhe ^__^ Actually this song was written during The Great Leap. He asked Andrew Chu & Josh Chen to write a song for him but was surprised it turned out to be so melancholy. Then Ching2 asked if Olia is not a real name & David said yes, that he was just trying to match the melody. But in his mind there is a little girl called Olia who is actually a metaphor for time. Ching2 regretted that time has ran out as she wanted to ask abt more songs. Isn't she lovely?
So anymore thanks to Sukyee I feel I should trust David more. Although his private life seems to be somewhat of a mess but whose private life is not a mess at some point? Just hope that the negative press will cease soon & I will still be here supporting him. A big thank you <3 <3 <3 to bloodbubble for latest clip from KL album promo. Enjoy!
