Last day of 2005

Woah last day of 2005 & the report card of David looks vry good haha Shanghai concert *tick* Beijing concert *tick* Singapore concert *tick* & of cos The Great Leap 2005 *big fat tick* Small mention of The art of war among dj's fav 5 songs which is what can be expected of David's works always being mentioned quietly & without fanfare by those who geuinuely appreciate good music.

So upload clip of 2000 Solar concert in HK where David sang a song he specially wrote with Wang Lee Hom, Eason Chan, Nicholas Tse and Daniel Chan. I enjoy the performance more each time I watch & hope u do too. The singers representative of some of the best in chinese entertainment. Direct link if u can't watch here. First Eason Chan who also has a vry good 2005 winning many awards for both his Cantonese & Mandarin albums. He took a gamble by sticking to the songs he want to sing rather than crowd pleasing K songs & it paid off. Also helps that he has such a unique voice. Not trying to compare but Eason would probably be the successor to Jacky Cheung, both equally good in singing & acting but opting to concentrate more on singing. It has been rumored that Eason will take over from Jacky in Snow Wolf Lake nxt yr.
Then Nic Tse whose fame has gone down quite a bit since this clip but Nic could be the successor to Andy Lau. Goodlooking, not a bad singer, can compose & write lyrics, not a bad actor with lotsa room for improvement. Daniel Chan seemed to have faded into mainland China doing a few series & movies. He has quite a decent voice and okay actor. He is quiet spoken & gentlemanly a bit like Leon Lai.
So is Leehom successor to Aaron Kwok then haha not really dun think anyone come close to Aaron. Vry fond of him myself, so glad he got GHA for best actor cos I think he is a better actor than ppl give him credit. Thought he was excellent in Anna Magdalene besides Kelly Chen's stiff, one tone acting & Takeshi Kaneshiro's usual repressed role. Leehom has also done well this yr with Shangrila & recent concert in Vegas. Fans seem to love his newly released album.
As for David, I think he is fortunate to have fans who will not accept anything but the best from him. We r always so critical of him & maybe that's why he so hard on himself, always the perfectionist. There was a clip of him on Golden G & even with his hairstyle he must have it perfect. He also taught me a very valuable lesson & that is one must always move ahead & change is inevitable.
At first I could not accept the way he is always progressing & incorporating new things slowly into his music. But once I started this blog, I find that to keep pace with him & the rest of the world I too have to progress & make changes. I now realised that David is usually one or two steps ahead of the pack. This really made me in awe of him. He really is very special, so glad he is my idol. Anyway I hope David, Leehom, Eason, Nic, Daniel & all of us will follow our dreams into the new year. Happy 2006!

Listening to David

Poster for 2006 New Year concert. The long haired girl in David's fav shade of pink is the Supergirl who will be singing the Honda song. Sum ppl felt she should have won cos she was the best singer in the contest. But still she is doing quite well & now is lucky enough to sing David's song!
David written many songs for female singers & my fav is Sarah Chen cos she has such a beautiful voice & I felt did the most justice to his music. A-Mei is a close second. But my fav DT song written for female singer is now Wish you were here sang by Sandy Lam. Such a gorgeous song with a simple melody so suited to Sandy's slightly hoarse yet sweet voice. A big thank you to the davidcn fan who found the link as well as many other links to listen online to the songs written for many singers by David. Of cos not all of them are great, but David always take care to try and 'tailor' the song to the singer. He even manage to make Tony Leung sound quite good when singing Wind and Sand. When David cooperate with other singers, he always make sure he has the time to meet them & work with them closely so as to get the best, most sincere result.
Wang Leehom's album released 12/30 featured a song with Rain & of cos looking forward to it. Called Perfect Harmony & I was thinking maybe it would be like Stevie Wonder & Paul McCartney's Ebony and Ivory. The song turned out to be hiphop with Rain singing for abt 1 min in Korean while Leehom rap "Rain Rain" now & again *sigh* The 2 of them did not record together, in fact they have nvr met & the song showed it, it was in perfect disharmony. Felt really disappointed with both as felt they should have put more effort in this chinese-korean cooperation or not cooperate at all, but guess their fans should be happy.
Sum folks r unhappy with Rain's success in the chinese speaking world but why blame him? He worked hard for his success. Seemed to me Japanese & Korean audience more discerning in their music taste. Even think that maybe if Tension were a Korean or Japanese group, they could have far more success & better sales. But think David already knew this long before so he wrote My Anata but not many listen & they are not listening now *long sigh*

The goodness of David

At last tongue sticking out pix much thanx to Serene of SGFC *muak* he really looked sweet in Cover Personality esp the last part where he pretend to be a robot, always so full of humor. Below he posed man as requested by the fans.
Hope he had a great Christmas in LA, soon he will be flying to China for new year concert. Tom has this page on it, mostly news abt the Supergirls. Also promo but David dun appeared *sob* & poll at right for the ideal duet, David & Bibi is 2 if u wanna vote. But no chance of them singing in this concert altho it seemed David did not reject cos of no time for rehearsal. Lotsa mixed reports with sum saying David was invited to entice Bibi to appear as she seemed reluctant to keep appearing with the Supergirls *sigh* dun blame her.
Still let hope David dun get pull into this kinda mess. Its not Bibi's fault that she is his fan but seemed to get overblown somewhat. Bibi dun just sing his songs but Wang Fei & Leehom too. Also the chinese media insist on calling her 'female Jay Chou' cos her name is also Chou & she sings r&b altho I dun think she ever sang his songs. So its not fair to keep putting her & David together.
Strange report abt a celebrity's son called Ken Yu who had a breakdown after forgetting lyrics on Happy Sunday & being criticised by the judges. He was singing Rain as David is his idol. The parents apparently asked David to visit their son but David did make a long distance call to Ken to try & cheer him up.

David in focus

Do hope u guys had a great break & thanx so much for leaving so many greetings, really give the blog a nice festive feel. However change banner to more comtemplative David for last wk of 2005 as he continue his journey of music into 2006.
David posing with host of Cover Personality which aired on Xmas day, bt link available @ davidcn. Wasn't that serious & not much new info, mostly already covered by other interviews. His childhood teacher, a Mrs Harder, appeared to confirm that he was vry naughty as a boy & once a teacher had to sticky tape his mouth cos he talked too much heehee looks like David hasn't changed much. Also showed lotsa his schoolday pixs & he looked sweet & adorable.
Really enjoyed the intro as he used various r&b styles to sing Spring Wind. He repeated that he wanna go into movies & that marriage not that important now as being the only son, he wants to make sure his career is more established so he can look after his parents. He felt that more effort should go into the first date & often he will get some flowers or chose a special restaurant in order to make it more memorable, so romantic.
4 fans appeared to ask questions & requests. One was which female actress he would like to work with & David surprised by not answering Charlie Theron as expected but Scarlett Johansson after watching Lost in Translation written & directed by Sofia Coppola. Haven't seen it yet altho on my must watch list but I have seen Scarlett in Girl with a pearl earring & she was vry luminous in her role.
When asked what he think is the most attractive part of him, he answered his sense of humor haha The requests were to strike manly poses, strip in TW concert, arrange to meet his fans for high tea & of cos hugs. But he was so funny when he agreed to hug them, he kinda do this robotic walk. It was really good & he was so CUTE ^__^
Other news is David wrote new song for Honda cm & he will sing it as well 1 of the China Supergirls, think its the one who came third & also considered the best singer. Not sure if he recorded it yet but lyrics already published, credit davidcn. Seemed to conflict with Toyota as his concert sponsor but still most ppl can & do own more than one brand of car. So David now has worked with Ford, Toyota & Honda. Maybe when he becomes director, he can get to do a short film for BMW like Lee Ang, WKW & John Woo!

Anniversary to remember

The program with David's interview is on Xmas day but not sure if its the same for cable or when the program is on. Its Cover Personality in chinese I think & I rmbr seeing it once or twice. Soon it will be the anniversary of the Asia tsunami which took more than 200,000 lives on Dec 26 2004. Hope you all remember & pray for them. Really like putting Santa cap on him, he looked like an elf heehee Too lazy to do proper snowfall but this the easiest & prettiest I could find but have to refresh to see again sry. David already in LA & seemed he will not duet with Bibi during CNY concert as he felt not enough time to rehearse properly. Anyway they sang together before, also he did not say he will 'still remember Bibi in ten years'. Wish the media will stop saying that. What he did say after they sang together, was both of them will not forget singing together even after 10 years. Even such a simple, sweet sentiment they can make it so banal *sigh*
Lee Hom too is suffering from sum stupid rumor, totally untrue of cos as all rumors of Lee Hom always proved in the end. Why is there always bad gossip abt Lee Hom whenever he released a new album? Its a good thing he has extremely faithful fans. Here he looked vry cool in his chinese opera inspired sportswear.
Sumone @ davidcn kindly put up link to dl part of Love Can Shanghai concert broadcasted by Shanghai Oriental Television, think its legit. Seemed to be the entire white outfit section with Rain, Shanghaied, Airport in 10.30, Who do you love, Moon over whose heart, Let's fall in love & Runaway. The recording perfect or maybe David's vocals just incredibly perfect.
After watching, felt Love Can can blow Soul Power away cos David was simply, superbly overwhelming. His voice pure magic & this is from watching the recording so imagine what it must be like live. He managed to capture the infectious feel of a western free-spirit concert while blending in chinese elements of operatic show. Also he was extremely captivating, such presence on stage that can hardly take my eyes off him when he is singing. He has that kinda effect, the only other performer who can do that to me is Madonna.
Brilliant arrangement of all the songs, almost faultless. A bit of gospel in Rain, a bit of nightclub jazz in Airport in 10.30, Moon over whose heart seemed just a shade faster to go with the rest of the songs. Who do you love is breathtaking, even better than the cd with David's voice breaking ever so slightly to tug at yr heartstring. Hard to choose but if I have a fav its Runaway. Actually was wondering how he was gonna top the frenetic, spontaneous performance of Runaway in Soul Power. Well he dun top it but gave different, less fenetic feel with the 2 girls doing the voiceovers. Absolutely love the way he made it sound like an english, country-rock song & even tho he is singing in chinese, it just sound so rite, so good, so perfect.
He had a lot of musicans on stage, almost an orchestra, but yet the feel of the concert is still intimate & uncontrived. The file vry big & took me half the night to dl but really worth to watch if u haven't attend any of the Love Can concerts. Really hope he will release live concert cd/dvd soon plse.

Butterfly no more

Wasn't going to post tonight but sumtimes hate going to sleep, its weird cos I hate getting up too :P Anyway latest news abt how David treating his dad to dinner but was frustrated when his dad refused to order too much in case it would be wasted haha my dad is the opposite, he will order too much & expect me to finish it up.
Also David said he is looking forward to spending Xmas in LA. He enjoys shopping for gifts, wrapping down & putting them under the tree. Wonder if he would like to do my Xmas shopping ^__^ So happy he gets to do the things he likes to do this yr & spend time with his beloved dog. Like to send him a gift too. Maybe just send charity donation in his name, think he will like that rite?

Replying to Lynn, just a metaphor dear. Nvr did like Puccini's Madame Butterfly vry much altho at least Butterfly sang in Italian not the silly english Hollywood likes to think Asian speak. Just my opinion okie but think Zhang Ziyi is a modern day Butterfly if she honestly believed she has 'proven' herself cos she is nominated in Golden Globes for an english speaking role.
So what abt all the Asian awards she has received then? And if she is so proud of being nominated for playing a Japanese geisha wearing blue contacts & speaking stilted english, then I feel sorry for the poor girl. Did you know that Shirley Maclaine posed as a Japanese geisha in order to act in Madame Butterfly in a 1962 movie called My Geisha? In the poster, she actually looked more like a geisha than those in Memoirs *shudder* Wow I am all 'butterfly' out now heehee ... hmmmmm ... lotsa latenighters around, thk stellz for yr msg & wanting to link my blog, so kind, wow another hidden meaning in My Anata! Must get SGFC to find out from David when he comes here again next mth ^_*

My Anata, Madame Butterfly

Was amusing myself browsing & reading blogs with mention of Sg Love Can concert & found this vry detailed entry! Wow like to thank the blogger for the review cos it was so good. Not only that but there was an amazing explanation of the song My Anata. David said it was based on Madame Butterfly - about how a young Japanese girl fell in love with an American sailor, and then committed suicide when she found out that he's married. David feels that this is cultural suicide. We should learn how to love and appreciate Chinese music, rather than go crazy over American, Japanese or Korean culture. We must not let our culture die. Obviously also applicable to all Asian races, first we must love ourselves, our cultures before appreciating other cultures.
Anyway it reminded me of this book called A Pale View of Hills by Kazuo Ishigoro, which also has a bit of Madame Butterfly - a Japanese woman married to a Briton & living in Britain recalling another Japanese woman in Japan waiting for her US lover to come & take her away. There was an extremely vague uneasy suggestion that this woman might have killed her little daughter to ease her passage to US. Or the first woman recalling the past might have felt guilt upon the suicide of her own daughter from her first marriage to a Japanese husband. Anyway have to read the book yourself to get what I mean & why I link it to My Anata, or you might not even see the similiarity between the three - Madame Butterfly, My Anata & A Pale View of Hills.
But this is what I called art where the artist getting his influence from somewhere in turn influenced his own audience. David is a master at this, he is so able to make you think whenever you heard his songs & said hey now what does this song means? What does it remind me of? Could it mean this & be influenced by that? Of cos I dun know what all his songs mean but its a pleasure finding out slowly one by one. Even the simple ones has a deeper meaning in it somewhere. David is truly a soulful artist like Ishigoro.

Toyota goodies & KL concert

Poster of 2006 New Year concert in Changsha I think (pix credit davidcn). Speculation that he might sing with Bibi which will be rather nice altho think ppl are getting tired of the Supergirls. There is such a thing as overexposure which David has not been a victim of so far *relief* Toyota website now has really cool Love Can downloads including clip of TW promo & animated screensaver all in zip format (info credit popo @ DT forum). The screensaver really pretty with countdown to TW concerts down to the secs ^__^
Btw read @ SGFC that Malaysia concert will be finalised soon, so if u guys r interested plse let them know asap as they r organising with the fanclub there for tickets & stuff so exciting. Fyi the venue should be KL. Interesting site promoting Asian music, they included blog under David Tao resources *thk u* check it out.
Read @ Davten yahoo grp that Jeff of Machi said he 'lured girls to ktv' by using names of Vanness, Stanley Huang & David Tao, so cute. Really like their new mvs esp the lifelike animation of Jeff. Also Machi Didi aka Andrew is vry tall now but still with baby face. Really a talented bunch. Their new album is called Superman.
Leehom also has new album called Heroes of the World where he also used elements of chinese opera *sigh* Heard the first single, vry nice but a bit too Craig David I feel & not as soothing as Shangrila but his vocals has really improved. Hope other songs in the album not the same style, still Lee Hom is always so creative. Hope the new album will do well. The power of David

Chih-Yung Power School with DT available for bt dl @ davidcn! Should come with warning - will melt into a puddle after watching heehee Wish there r more screencaps as his expressions even cuter than Peach Protein. He did lotsa nice nice things displaying his manliness & think all the girls including Chih-ling charmed by him. They even tried to electrify him en mass haha He was simply marvellous when he play the drums & dun even showed off by beating all the drums just doing rythmic beats which was just hypnotic, I was melting by that time ^__^
He showed how to hold a gun, so man & mesmerising, so lucky those girls arrested by him heehee He also demonstrated frisking girls & when handed the pink furry handcuffs, he looked so bemused & cute! Then he showed how to shake hands with girls, so gentleman *melting* The students asked quite funny questions, one girl wanted to 'feel' his muscles & they yelled for him to strip but sadly he only took off his jacket. Still he looked absolutely gorgeous in his white tee *melt to a puddle*
Whenever he tried to have contact with one girl, the other girls would yelled negatively, so cute but surprisingly noone asked for a hug altho one did put her head on his shoulder TWICE & was jeered. He said he preferred cheerful & jovial girls than sombre & quiet. Actually was thinking he might prefer quiet girls cos he talk so much ^__^ but love love love to listen him talk, such sexy voice. According to Davten yahoo grp, this will be shown 12/24 - vry enjoyable Xmas gift I can guarantee heehee
Love Can concert featured in Iweekly. Latest news of David - he was disturbed by renovations below his TW flat making him mad as rare for him to have sum rest only to be disrupted. He joked that when he fly off to LA he will install sum noisy equipment in his flat as revenge. So guess should be leaving soon for his holiday break *sigh* But he will be appearing in another TVBS program soon, a more serious interview but knowing David, it could be fun with lotsa melting moments ^__^

Do I Do I

Watched repeat of Power school & its indeed Yanzi so hopefully David will be on nxt week. Yanzi was super cute & brought her dog Norman while Chih-ling brought hers called Coffee. For once was able to tolerate her singing as she seemed to have matured & sounded really good live. Sry to hear abt her breakup ... hmmm ... maybe should hook up with David heehee just kidding ^__^
Apart from that not much news abt David as he should be heading to LA for a mth break so spending Xmas & New Year there I guess, even tho supposedly he was invited to sing with China Supergirls on 12/31 *hope not* Oh here's vote for yr fav cm in China, Bibi is way ahead *go Bibi go* & last time I checked David's Sprite ad was 3rd. Such a great little song, rather Beatlesque & the most incredible ending for a chinese song. Talking abt ending, song from Leo Ku's new album called Sleeping Beauty has rather similar ending to Lullaby, still for sure other songs must have ending with piano tinkling & whispered good night. But then David has always been an innovator. Just remembered he used classical music seamlessly in Who do you love mv. In the beginning Debussy & Rachmaninov in the middle, both beautifully inserted to blend with the mood of the music video which make me really excited for his future work in movie soundtrack.
The last soundtrack I really enjoyed is 2046 by Umebayashi Shigeru, really wonderful & the image keep popping in my mind is the crazy kiss between Tony & Gongli. Even though she appeared for the shortest time, Gongli still left the most lasting impression & it would appeared she did it again in Memoirs earning high praise for her walkon role with even the word 'Oscar' being used. She looks incredible too, smouldering & sexy, tho her makeup much too contemporary for a geisha *sigh*

Freefalling with David

Recently there was a list released online supposed to reveal fees charged by celebrities in China, HK & TW performing in mainland China. David was among the lowest. Dun know if its real but I do believe David will not have the heart to charge so much in a country so poor it cannot even erect enough schools for children. David enjoys performing in China cos he wants to bring his brand of music, hoping it will touch the hearts of the ppl living there & give them hope & happiness.
That is why he is my idol. I feel so happy that he is around to prove that not all celebrities care just abt fame & fortune. Yesterday was the 25th death anniversary of John Lennon. If he was alive today, will ppl post rude msgs on his fansite to belittle him & called him "poor John" cos he dared to be different & he longed for world peace more than anything in the world? I dun know, all I know is David Tao is the closest singer/composer to John Lennon I have ever known cos he taught me how to freefall.
