Always a hero

Nike came up with this ad in support of Liu Xiang & the mandarin text reads:
Love competition.
Love risking your pride.
Love winning it back.
Love giving it everything you've got.
Love the glory. Love the pain.
Love sport even when it breaks your heart.
While I had to give it to Nike for coming up with such a marvellous ad strategy, still the text reminds me eeriely of David's lyrics for 桂冠英雄. Maybe that's why I like the song so much cos unlike other songs written abt the Olympics, this song tells more from the pv of the competing athletic -- the struggles, the hopes, the fears, pain & stress. First you did it to prove to yourself but once you reached Liu Xiang's level, you also do it out of pride & love for your nation. Anyway Liu wrote an open letter to explain & I think also to refute all the false accusations that either Nike or his government forced him to withdraw cos he could not win with his injury *sigh* I guess there's just something abt him cos I had to admit even I was dreadfully disappointed. That even though I was awed by Michael Phelp & enchanted by Guo Jing Jing's amazing grace, the one I really wanted to see was Liu Xiang.

Jiayou China!

The lovely smile of David brightening my life on an otherwise very sad day of Bejing Olympics as Lui Xiang had to pull out of the 110m hurdles race cos of an injury. As others have commented, he must have been in a lot of pain for him to pull out when an entire nation's hope rest on his shoulders. I think he made the right decision cos it could have been a lot worst if he had fallen or came in last & not qualify. But it is not the end of the world & hopefully he will both recover from his injury & mental burden of disappointing his country. He will be 29 in the next Olympics & it is not impossible for him to compete & win another medal. Still I feel his pain, torment & misery. It is indeed a frightful thing to be a country's icon *sigh*
Not much David's news just confirmation that he will be holding a concert in Tianjin on 10/7. So far it has been vry low key as usual with David these days. Not sure where he is at the moment but probably working on his album and/or movie script.

Exit EMI

As has been rumored EMI sold all their Asian shares to Typhoon owned by Ronald Cheng's father, Norman Cheng. Along with the sales is of cos David's contract with only one studio album left for release. Not sure what this will mean for David but it really shouldn't affect him as much as the others cos he holds all the copyrights to his songs. He has his own recording studio & if he has to, he can produce his album all by himself as he has done in the past. He can probably go on an album by album contract. Also since Typhoon is vry much into digital music then he can also release a bunch of singles online as a lot of Japanese artists are doing now.
But it is a sad indication of the decline in album sales. As many critics are lamenting that now most chinese singers release albums not cos they have amassed some good music but to promote themselves & garner some lucrative endorsements. I nvr would have thought to see a cosplaying Wubai endorsed some computer game *sigh* If it has been DT, this blog will definitely be history. But I am not ready to give up the blog yet. I will hold on for his 6th studio album & movie. It is hard to give him up cos despite all his faults, & he has many, it is also hard not to believe in DT.
